We have 33 days left!!!!!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: And two months from today I start the WDW College Program.

Ooh...how exciting! :goodvibes

This kind of in-your-face culture war tactic, rather than fostering "tolerance," tends to create a huge silent majority that just gets more and more ticked off. It isn't that people want to be mean or bigoted; they just want to be left alone to their own values and beliefs. I think things like this — as well as the anti-Prop 8 folks who are storming Christian churches during services and having gay couples run up to the altar and kiss, while families and children look on — become a case of winning the battle but losing the war. Decent people don't take kindly to bullies, and the gay activist arm of the democrat party is getting more thuggish each day. I think even Obama and the dems in Washington are starting to get a little worried that they will be tied to this kind of radical agenda. Obama, in fact, is now backing off from repealing "Don't ask; don't tell." I think they're all hoping like heck that the California Supreme Court upholds Prop 8, so they won't really have to take a position. If Obama and the dems do get tied to a radical gay, anti-Christian agenda, it will be bad for them at the polls in the future.

Let me say, again, that I know of no one who wants to treat gays in a bigoted or harmful way — and many conservatives with a libertarian bent are, in fact, in support of gay marriage — but when "tolerance" becomes forced "endorsement of" the gay lifestyle, such as in this eHarmony settlement, many people will simply stop listening to the gay lobby, and stop voting for candidates who do, because it conflicts with their core values and beliefs.

I agree with this...very well written.

Let's be very, very careful. Let's talk about the weather. It's cold.

It was -13 last night, with a high of -4 today. Brrrr.....

I'd like to add an additional safe topic - my sore throat - can I whine about that just a little bit?

I hope you feel better.:goodvibes

Actually I am happy about the burgeoning number of young conservative thinkers who have chosen to be part of the conversation here. It warms the cockles of my 44yo heart. :)

We're the same age...:thumbsup2

I'm 19, I know the feeling! Welcome!

My oldest son is 19...now I feel old. :sad2: Well, I guess that makes Zip old too, so it's okay. :goodvibes

I was a political science major in college and I went to school on Long Island (where I live) at SUNY Stony Brook. In class when we would have political arguments it was me against...well basically the whole class! NOt too fun! Great to come here with like minded people :goodvibes

The CB should be a piece of cake after all that!

Welcome to our world...it is a pretty silly one but we like it.

Good for you. I'm not sure if at that age I would have had the courage to stand up for my convictions. Maybe against a couple of people, but a whole class? Wow - I have a lot of respect for you. That's certainly a very hard task to take and I don't think I would have taken it at 19-21 years of age. Good for you!

Nice! I like to do the wild rumpus dance. :dance3:

OT: Have you heard there is a live-action movie version of the book that is due for release in late 2009? I was reading up on it, and it sounds like it is supposed to be fantastic -very true to the message and vibe of the book.

I have the VHS which has quite a few of his books on it. I can run really fast when "In the Night Kitchen" comes on! FF that baby.. I don't need the parent phone calls!

I almost just wrote "good morning." Yes, it's 2:15 in the afternoon ... where has my day gone?!

Anyway, I am grateful that I married into a good, modest Republican family. My FIL just sent me these quotes about government. They've been around for a while, but felt good to read again:

'If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed; If you do read the newspaper you are misinformed.' - Mark Twain * * *

Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress.... But then I repeat myself. - Mark Twain * * *

I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle. - Winston Churchill * * *

A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. - George Bernard Shaw * * *

A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man which debt he proposes to pay off with your money. - G. Gordon Liddy * * *

Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner. - James Bovard, Civil Libertarian (1994) * * *

Foreign aid might be defined as a transfer of money from poor people in rich countries to rich people in poor countries. - Douglas Casey * * *

Giving money and power to the government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys. - P.J. O'Rourke, Civil Libertarian * * *

Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else. - Frederic Bastiat, French Economist (1801-1850) * * *

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. - Ronald Reagan (1986) * * *

I don't make jokes... I just watch the government and report the facts. - Will Rogers * * *

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free! - P.J. O'Rourke * * *

In general, the art of government consists of taking as much money as possible from one party of the citizens to give to the other. - Voltaire (1764) * * *

Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you! - Pericles (430 B.C.) * * *

No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session. - Mark Twain (1866 ) * * *

Talk is cheap...except when Congress does it. - Unknown * * *

The government is like a baby's alimentary canal: a happy appetite at one end and no responsibility at the other. - Ronald Reagan * * *

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill * * *

The only difference between a tax man and a taxidermist is that the taxidermist leaves the skin. - Mark Twain * * *

The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools. - Herbert Spencer, English Philosopher (1820-1903) * * *

There is no distinctly Native American criminal class ..save Congress. - Mark Twain * * *

What this country needs are more unemployed politicians. - Edward Langley, Artist (1928 - 1995) * * *

AND THE BEST ONE... A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. - Thomas Jefferson

My favorite has always been the last one! It was almost my tag/sig line.

I never have given a lot of thought to dating services. I was already married when they came in vogue some years back. But it never has bothered me in the least that some cater to gays (there used to be one of these that advertised on this very board IIRC), some to straights, some to Trekkies, runners, Disney fans, or whatever. To insist that each MUST cater to all sexual orientations seems a bit intolerant IMO. If someone feels each dating service SHOULD, well that's their right I suppose. But to legislate such a thing would seem to abridge civil liberties.

I agree! btw.. congrats to your mom on her retirement!

The weather here in Northern Michigan was very disappointing to my kids. We were supposed to get between 6-10 inches last night and we got about 5. They desperately wanted a snow day.

I wanted one too - it would have meant slave labor in the basement for me. The kids should be thankful that they had to go to school today. :rotfl:
White Fish point, just north of Paradise, has a foot and a half on the ground according to DH! He had to put the plow on the 9n so he can get in and out!

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

The CB should be a piece of cake after all that!

Welcome to our world...it is a pretty silly one but we like it.

Welcome! You don't need to be 110 percent all CON all the time, either. We all have our issues and they're respected here.

Did somebody say cake?:cloud9:

My practical side and my impractical side are at war regarding the 4 for 7 deal. The winner has yet to be determined!:rotfl:

I just have to share this. I lead a mom's group that has about 75 moms. In the last few weeks, we have had about six families whose husband's have lost their jobs. Since most of us are SAHM or work PT, this has been really hard. We keep a small food pantry, but it I emptied it out earlier this week when two families called and needed help. The other leader and I sent out an email asking for help replenishing our pantry. The response at our meeting today was just overwhelming. We received tons of food and houshold items, and one mom brought $75 worth of grocery gift cards for us to give to the families that needed it most. We had several moms who were in tears today as they took boxes and bags of food home. One mom, whose husband and she both work but still struggle, came up to me and let me know that her pantry was completely bare. She cried as we helped her fill her car up with groceries. After I came home, I have had several women call me to say that they have some money set aside and want to use it to help women in our group. I am not a crying person, but I have been in tears all afternoon because of all the kindness and generosity I saw exhibited today. I just wanted to share with everyone.

Good for them! That is very touching, and I'm glad you know such wonderful kind women. :lovestruc Thank you for sharing that, Nanner.

Hey y'all. I'm just curious if anyone knows what happened to the Obama thread? Not trying to start a fight or anything. I know some of ya hate when we come into your space, so I'm not trying to start anything. Just wondering where the thread went. Thanks!
