The "Claw"

So I did not got SDD, but did get AS2 (interestingly, it is now a full week after the 60 day mark and there is still tons of availability for AS2, so for anyone curious I'd say the odds of getting this at 30 days are not terrible).

I was intrigued by the description on the Disney website that if you are lucky you might get "chosen" by the claw. Any guesses about what that might entail? Does the claw drop down and encircle your alienmobile? Does your car maybe even get raised up like you are being lifted by the claw? Or is this just a marketing line that has no real application in the ride? Curious if it will indeed be an "Oooooo" moment that could make the ride extra fun. Here's the full quote from the WDW website:

"Inside a play set that Andy won at Pizza Planet, the Aliens have powered up their flying saucers—and they’re ready to spin you on a wild ride into space! Hold on for some wild fun as your toy rocket takes off, all while electronic space music provides an intergalactic soundtrack.

And if you’re really lucky, you might just get “chosen” by the claw. Oooooo!"

Any thoughts?

The Mater ride in DL doesn’t do any “raising”, so I wouldn’t expect it in the Alien version of the ride.

Perhaps a fancy light projection? (Although I haven’t kept up on rumors, and might as well keep it a surprise, since my trip begins on opening day)

yes, i caught those words too a couple of years ago when I saw a video on the new and coming toy story land. I wondered about that mentioned feature too (it was a woman' imagineer and I wish I could see that snippet video again)... I am guessing it's going to pick one couple of people and put their picture on a screen like "that guy" at monster's laugh in show.

I think it's just that the idea of the ride has the claw overhead. I would not expect it to move or anything.
This is what I’m thinking. It appears in the video released today that the claw is above and has a green alien in its grasp.

I'm going in August post your experiences upon your return. :)

Thanks for sharing the info in AS2 fastpass availability. My 60 days is coming up on Monday and I have AS2 on day 1 of my trip with SDD and FOP on days 6 and beyond, anticipating that AS2 would be the least sought after initially.
I'm also curious to see what the claw ends up being. Not too much longer now and we'll be getting some first hand reviews.

I sincerely doubt it will drop and lift up cars. Way too much liability and possibility of accidents. It's likely a decorative feature, possibly with some sort of digital 'selection', but even that I doubt.
