Elliott – age 14, a lovable 6ft 4inch streak of lightning

..and starring..
Becky – 19 – my dd, beautiful, talented, takes after her Mum

All the holidaymakers have done Disney before, sis & family just once in 2001, for Mum & Dad it’s their 4th visit in 6 years, Paul was here 10 years ago…and Mark, Becky and I have racked up nearly 30 trips between us…..

Day 3

Sunday 21st October

It’s another very early morning for me with very little sleep. It always takes me ages to acclimatise myself to the US, even after all these trips! My sis is the same, though she never sleeps much anyway. We have another early swim, which is lovely, but then spend far too long waiting for everyone else to get ready. This is the problem with a large group I guess, and we’ve just got so used to doing everything the way we want to. The plan though is to do all the main parks once together then go our own way…we’ll see!

I forgot to say that yesterday the Management Company popped round with a set of new glass tumblers for us (woohoo!), and repaired a broken chair we’d found. They also removed the dirty bowl from under he sink…although they did just leave it on the side!. Mum had found that the sheets on her bed were filthy with disgusting stains (not saying what) and reported that too as she had to wash them all out. Apparently they’d had trouble with the cleaners…you’re telling me! We will be reporting all this to TCD though.

Anyway, ‘thinking we may leave MGM before the rest of the Clampets we head of in our own car followed by Big Red. It’s much later than we’d hoped and MGM is really busy for this time of year. There are massive queues for the bigger rides, and we grab fast passes for Rock n Roller Coaster, but decide to give Tower of Terror a miss today as the queue is already 50 minutes. Split up and let Becky & Paul do their own thing as I can see they’re fed up with the crowds; sis and her lot go off to the Muppets while Ma & Pa Clampet head elsewhere…maybe the Backlot Tour I think. We’re hoping to try and get a ps for the Sci Fi Diner for lunch, it’s my favourite place to eat here as I love old Sci Fi movies. Sadly it’s far too busy and we’d have to wait 4 hours if we want to eat, and that just isn’t going to happen as it’s already lunch time and we’re starving. I’m very grumpy now as I feel if we’d got here early like I wanted to we’d have been able to eat here. We end up in the ABC commissary which is pretty grotty really, not at all what I wanted…yes dammit, I am a spoiled brat! I stamp my feet and pout a lot and try and remember this is the happiest place on Earth…..

Big deep breath and a mediocre burger later we head for the Sorcerers Hat to meet the gang and see the Stunt show together. Everyone’s moaning at how busy it is, and Mark and I just shake our heads and try very hard not to say ‘I told you so’. We can be quite unbearable sometimes I know!

Mum & Dad decide they want to see Indiana Jones again rather than the car show so they head off there while we others opt for the cars. It’s very busy but we get seats together and I practice my filming with my new toy. The show’s ok, but the best bit in our opinion is when the stunt guy misses his mark and instead of hanging onto the rope over the water he falls in…biggest cheer of the day! Izzy especially is not impressed by this whole show and asks ‘So…what was the point of all that?’ She’d much rather see The Muppets I think, so sis takes her off to see the 3D show while we take Jess to ride Rock N Roller Coaster with us. She sits with me, and a little girl gets to sit by Mark, lucky thing. 3-2-1 zooooooooom our stretch limo is catapulted into the freeway…and upside down…I love love love this ride! The music in your ears, flashing lights, being thrown around…what’s not to like?

Jess is very impressed, which is cool. I wish we could persuade Becky to do this but she won’t do upside down rides…..even though as it’s in the dark I don’t think you can tell when you’re upside down really. Meet up with sis and we have 15 minutes just us 2 couples while the kids go off to ride Star Tours with their fast passes. I’ll do it later in the week I think when it’s a bit quieter, thank you. All meet up again and have planned to ride the Movie Ride together but there’s a very long wait…45 minutes, and none of us want to do that so we split up again, taking Becky & Paul with us to look around the animation gallery and pop into the Princess shop. Becky is looking for a Cinderella dress for her little half-sister Ellie who’s 3 this week. She spends lots of money on one and also buys her a bag for Xmas while she’s there. (we later see Cindy dresses in Wallmart for a third of the price and imho they’re much nicer too).

After an ice cream we’ve all had enough and are very hot and tired so it’s time to go back to the villa for a swim. Becky is really suffering with her cold now and is pretty grumpy, and a nice relaxing swim soon turns into a war zone when the kids and others join us. Between Elliott jumping in on us, Mark & Paul playing volleyball and Izzy trying to swim under our legs we decide we’re really not having fun and get out the pool in a huff. I can be a stroppy teenager too when I like you know!

After a nice shower and change we feel a bit more human and stop snarling at the boys. Becky and I agree that boys smell and we want to throw rocks at them and we both feel much better for that admission. Decide we all want Chinese for dinner but don’t want to drive far. Dad insists on driving to a place he’s seen on the 192 in the bus. It’s raining, dark and pretty darned scary with Dad weaving over the white lines and I notice many cars leaping out of the way of Big red. I’m so traumatized I need 2 vodka & tonics before I can relax…well, any excuse! The place we stop at is called Ace Buffet. It’s a bit grotty, but very friendly and the food is hot at least; and there’s food for Becky which is always a bonus. I decide not to touch the mussels though as I’m a little wary of them in a buffet. It’s ok though, and very cheap at around $10 each, but I don’t think we’ll be back. I’m not a big fan of buffets anyway, apart from Boma of course.

Back in the van I just close my eyes and try to forget I’m in Big Red. By the way, getting in the bus is much easier now that the parents have bought a little plastic step stool….us shorties can climb in properly now! Back to the villa, a few more drinks, and bed. It’s Ma & Pa Clampets Wedding Anniversary tomorrow, and EPCOT for us!

yuk about the sheets! :scared:

It is harder touring with a big group! glad you all found something at MGM. Shame it was heaving.

These newbies just won't listen to the experts, will they :rotfl:

You seem to be coping well with your big group - I would've been driven bonkers by family by now. Another great day :)

This is just so spooky reading your reports. Your day at MGM was like mine with our big party. We were all so late getting there we could not go to sci fi diner my fav restaurant there (at that time, its now prime time though) and I got really annoyed. The rest of them had burgers and I walked off to get a sandwich at starring rolls but had a strop for the rest of the day!!

Although I am so enjoying your report it is bringing back all the memories I must have hidden away!!!

MGM sounds crazy busy, pleased that you could still get some things done though.
