OK, you guys have sold me on the cabins. Please tell me about the campground and the amenities. I love the cabin vs a "hotely" type room but the grounds are not as nice as the other resorts at least in the photos I see especially the pools.

We camp so I know the fellow guests will be fabulous so sell me on the campground....photos will be appreciated!

If you already camp, you are about to be spoiled at the Fort. It is the best campground, bar none.

Lots of pictures HERE

As for the pools, they are dated, but they are nice.

they have campfire singalong & movie, hayrides, carriage rides, horseback riding, petting farm, cruising on a golf cart to look at the decorations, electric water pageant, fireworks viewing from the beach, and GREAT PEOPLE . and FISHING

I personally think if you don't need room service and a spa at your back door that FW is a hidden gem, especially if you go during any holiday. During Valentine's day/weekend you'll see a handful of campsites that are themed, during Easter you'll see even more sites, Fourth of July at least in the past was very colorful as well and I think that they even held a golf cart parade. I have yet to stay there during Halloween, but I bet it's amazing and I might try it this year...oh I better hurry and book that one. <BG> And Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations by the campers rival any outdoor resort decoration at even the nicest Disney resorts. We FW folks go all out, from blow ups to so many lights that a flash light is not needed. At that time of the year the undecorated camp site is the odd man out and alot of the cabin folks get involved as well. One year my family and I at Christmas had three cabins and I had all three cabins decorated to the hilt inside an out.

The cabin will save you money on food and the campground is really convient to the Magic Kingdom area and the surrounding resorts-just hope on a boat.

The campground also has a great dinner show (Hoop De Doo Revue), a buffeteria and a tavern that serves yummy pizza.

Rent a bike or a golf cart to get around the FW resort for convience (you can't get a golf cart anywhere else at Disney) or rent a boat for some relaxing water time. You can also fish if you want or lay out on their lake beach or by one of the pools. Cabin guests have one that convient for them or you can use the main pool.

Have kids? Their are lots of playgrounds, a small gameroom, campfire program in the evening etc.

FW is nicely manicured while keeping it's camping feel with lots of trees.

Since you said your already a camper you're gonna feel right at home here and I bet you'll be back. :)

..And they also have "Segway" tours for a fee.Lots of fun...And don't forget , THEY HAVE FISHING !:thumbsup2

Fort Wilderness is horrible, I would never stay there. Feel free to spread that tidbit around. (meanwhile I will be there enjoying the best place on earth without a bunch of other people using up all the sites, etc.)

That is exactly right. It's overpriced, overhyped, outdated and ALL mine :thumbsup2

And don't forget that once you've experienced FW, you look at the world differently. There's WDW magic and then there's FW magic. It's a respite in the midst of WDW park panic. There's nothing better than FW after a full park day. The pools may be dated but the marina isn't. Sitting on the porch and just being there is special. I think the boat rides and bus rides with fellow campers are a little different. There seems to be an instant commaraderie. Evening rides or walks through the loops, the quietness of the park..I can go on and on. It tends to set the standard for other campgrounds...and very few match it.

Every time you see a golf cart in any state, you'll immediately start humming a little Disney tune while visualizing how it could be Disney decorated. Oriental trading company and trinkets will become important. You will bow in awe of decorated sites that maybe a short time ago would have seemed tacky. It becomes magic in the fort Oh and the peacocks and otter. It's a special place and brings great family memories...you can't beat that.
