Sat here at work not really wanting to do anything so thought I would write a little pre-trip ramble.

Who will go to DLP?

Me (Steve). I have been going to Florida since 1990 and have been there 10 times now so I know my way around those parks really well. I have been out to Disneyland CA once and it was such a beautiful compact park and loved it out there but unlikely to return in the near future. Travelled to Disneyland Paris in 1993 and I suppose we were due a return.

The Wife (Tracey). Has been to Florida one more time than myself as she travelled there in 1998 with her family but every other trip we have taken together. Tracey was the reason why we ended up at DLP the first tome as she used to work at a Travel Agency and won free BA flights to Paris which was cool.

The Boy (Josh). We had not planned on taking Josh to any Disney parks until maybe next year at the earliest but our friends as below were travelling to Paris and were visiting DLP and asked if we would join them and we find it very hard to say no. Josh likes a bit Playhouse Disney and loves the old Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck cartoons and he can't wait to see Stitch at the parks. His fave characters are Beauty and the Beast he loves reading the book and watching it on DVD.

The Friends (Beth and Harry). I first met Beth over ten years ago when Disneyfiends posted on the Newsgroups over at RAPD (Rec Arts Disney Parks), we actually met on the IRC room used by the group and hit it off straight away, we have toured the parks with Beth and visited her in the USA and she has been and visited us taking in the sites of the North East. Harry we met for the first time in Dublin last year when once again Beth prompted us to take a trip there to see them.

When we last visited DLP it was Eurodisney and Space Mountain had not been completed, the Park although new and shiny (that might have been the rain) it lacked a lot of the atmosphere of Florida and none of the greenery had grown in but I suspect that will have changed these past 15 years. We had only planned on doing a day trip to DLP but after a rather eventful day in Paris we moved to the Cheyenne and sought sanctuary in familiar Disney surroundings. As mentioned above we won a free flight to Paris through Tracey's job and her colleague who was French and claimed to know paris really well booked us into a hotel in the centre of paris. Well it ended up being the seedy centre of Paris. We caught a taxi from CDG to our hotel and on the way down we were told not to come out in the afternoon as there was going to be a protest and it would be better to steer clear. It maybe should have been a warning that when our taxi driver dropped us off at the hotel he did not drive up the street where it was and just dropped us at the bottom. We walked up to the hotel passed the porn cinema on the left and checked in. The room was sparse and the door didn't lock properly, I have visited prisons with better amenities, as an observer not as an inmate I would like to point out. Now I don't blame Paris for this I blame her colleague who booked us into the hotel, when we said budget we expected Comfort Inn or similar not a hotel that rented the rooms by the hour. Unfortunately this soured our impression of Paris and we only stayed there one night and then headed for Disney. We will return to Paris and actually do the capital properly once Josh is a little older and will apreciate what it has to offer, for now DLP will be his first foray to a non primarily english speaking country (foreign just sounded wrong).

We do now have a lot planned when we are there except to try to get all the rides he can go on done multiple times and to baby swap him for a few of the rides we want to do. We will do at least one character meal, think we are erring towards Cafe Mickey for that. We have Buffalo Bills booked to conclude our trip on Friday night. We will make more plans when we meet up with Beth & Harry on Tuesday night.

I looked at the weather for DLP last week and it was showing sun and cloudless skies all week but now when I look we will have at least 2 days of rain (woohoo in a sarcastic tone), hoping that it won't dampen our spirits too much and I am pretty sure it won't, we will just spend more time under cover.

We are staying at the Santa Fe, we have previously stayed in the Cheyenne as mentioned above but did not want to keep catching Josh as he jumped from the top bunk of those bunk beds, not that we would let him sleep up there but he is 2 and anything he can climb is a challenge. One of his little friends an will be flying out with us and staying at the Santa Fe but think once we get there we will be going our own way.

We are really looking forward to visiting DLP and seeing all the things that have changed. Really hoping it lives up to expectations as I would really like to make it a regular place to visit on vacation. I am also hoping that the CM's have stopped going around in gangs of 4 or 5, the last time we were there they seemed a little frightened of the guests. The best interaction we had with a CM was with a cleaner in MK who we chatted to and took a picture of the 2 of us together.

Well I apologise for rambling a bit and reading back it is disjointed and not very informative so if you have read this far, sorry :)

Will catch up with you all on my return

steve

Steve your lack of interest at work is our gain :thumbsup2

Enjoyed the introduction to your gang as well as to the insight as to what this trip means.
I suspect that you'll be in for some surprises from your last trip.
:goodvibes Hoping they are memorable :)

A nice introduction of the people going.

I hope you have a lovely time. I look forward to reading about it:thumbsup2

I enjoyed reading this. :)

You'll be there now and I hope you're all having a magical time :wizard: I guess it will have changed a lot from your last visit! :rotfl:

Hope you enjoy your trip. Never been to Florida myself so can't compare but we made DLRP our second home and a regular place we visit... We just love it!

Look forward to your trip report.

Well we have returned from our trip and we are worn out, we now will be playing tour guides to our friends from America who came back with us. We had a very good experience, there were some things we were less than imressed with but overall excellent. The CM's were a lot friendlier than last time but appeared to be very thinly distributed over the parks although some still wouldn't meet your eye. I think we will return but maybe in 2 years when Josh is that little older and able to walk pretty much all day by himself because although we have the buggy my shoulders were used extensively.

Anyway going for breakfast and then off to Beamish, will post a trippie when I find the time.

steve
