~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Here's the view from my balcony:

looking out towards Animal Kingdom - you can see Expedition Everest in the distance to the left of the shell.

I actually never knew you could see the Magic Kingdom from the Swan. If you look closely, you can see Space Mountain and the Contemporary just to the right of the fish.

I took a stroll around the Boardwalk. Beautiful day, but it was dead, dead, dead on the Boardwalk.

I'm off to the marathon expo to pick up my bib.

Howdy everyone: I went over to the Wide World of Sports to pick up my marathon bib, t-shirts, and stuff. Here's the scene at the Wide World of Sports.

I thought this was an odd special. $40 gift card with $125 purchase... :confused3 who cares?

After I picked up my bib I headed over to Pop Century where I met up with about 70-80 fellow teammates from the WISH boards. It was great meeting people that I had been corresponding with over the boards for so long. Some were old friends I was seeing again, and some were new friends that I was just meeting. It was a great night. Had some dinner there, and headed back to the Swan to get ready for the race tomorrow. I gotta get up at 3:00am in order to catch a 4:00am bus to the starting line.

Good night all.

Hey Lou, and any of the other Bots still around. I thought I'd fill you in on what's going on down here.

Dave - Yeah, rub it in. Trust me, I'm having a great time here. It's 25 degrees tonight.

I had a great view of Philly today from atop the Municipal Services Building but feel free to rub it in. ;)

I'm actually here in WDW and Dave's pics make me jealous :rotfl: What a nice view from his room!!!

I'm still in denial that tomorrow at this time I'll be running...

Good luck Jen! I'm jealous. Tomorrow you are going to be so JACKED UP on adrenaline that I bet you will find that this race will be easier than expected.

Dave: Thanks so much for the pictures. I hope your race went well this morning. When I woke up at 7 this morning I thought of all the WISHers out running the 1/2. Boy I wish I was there too. Enjoy the fabulous weather as I hear upstate NY will get lots of snow today. We are expecting 6 to 10" tonight.

Lou: I hear you about making this an annual pilgrammage. We went last year and I loved it. When I was whining to my husband about it he said "well we can't go every year." But I'm thinking why not?? Oh yeah, it's so expensive. Well I'm planning on 2010. I may not be at the GF, but I'll see you out there on the course.

Sara: Hope you arrived safely.

Jen: Lots of luck to you in your race. Just think of it as 5 hours spent with a bunch of great like-minded people. Enjoy!!!!

Cindy

Lou: congrats on the eagles win

Sara: sorry I never found you on the course, although you would not have really wanted to hang with me anyway and I became super slow the second half

I really enjoyed my first marathon, but came down with a nasty respiratory infection complete with nonstop runny nose and cough which made things a little dicey on the course. I was hanging in pretty well until I got a monster cramp in my right quad in Magic Kingdom-- I tried to stretch it out but could not run more than .25 miles before it would spasm again. I wound up walking much of the race after that because my leg just refused to cooperate. Although I would have liked a better chip time I couldn't have asked for a better first marathon-- I am now hooked and want to come back next year and show what I can really do...

Jen - Congrats...you made it. I saw that Butch made it as well. It's really hard to run a marathon the first time because you have nothing to compare it to. Now that you know what to expect I know you will do better the next time. Yes, there will be a next time.

Ran 4 lame miles on the TM tonight. Still pinching myself today. Did the Eagles really win? Are they really playing the Arizona Cardinals for the NFC title? Am I still dreaming?

Is there anybody out there?

Lou

Hey Bots! I can't believe I'm the first one to post!

It was great seeing you all again, all be it for a very short time & with a growling belly that was denied food!:rotfl:

So, did you guys figure out what & where we're going later in the year? There was a quite a list being created when I left!:yay:

OK, I'll do a race report: Got up @ the butt crack with other family members (Brother, niece, mom) & ate a bit of oatmeal, Jodi-stopped, took some pictures & caught what probably was one of the last buses out of OKW @ about 4:20 or so. Got to the start @ around 5:05, got in porta-potty line. Called Dave, but missed him Cindy & Matt @ the starting line...I even missed the first wave that I was supposed to be in. Saw Cam in line all decked out in vow-renewal gear :thumbsup2 She introduced me to some other WISHers...:confused3 sorry, don't remember names.
Then I ran...started off slow, but the plan was to kick it up a notch after MK. I felt a pending JodiStop, but didn't want to take time out...However, I knew if I was going to try & run faster I needed to say bye-bye to my morning cup of tea;) .
That was around mile 6 & took around 2-3 minutes. Once out of there I put a nickle in it, but alas, I waited a bit too long & missed the 2 hour mark by a few minutes. My official time was 2:03 (almost 2:04). Oh well. I'm still happy, though, because my last 5 miles were sub 9mm, and you all know, this is like an Olympic pace for this slug!
It was a great learning race...now I know that, given a pancake-flat course, I can definitely break a 2 hr 1/2. I'll be trying to do that for whatever my next race is. Hopefully something local sometime soon, 'cause I don't really want to train for it :rotfl2: . I was hoping I could just coast off of all the training I did leading up to Philly :rolleyes1 .

So what about the rest of you marathoners & Goofyers???? I'm dying to hear how you guys made out.:woohoo: :rotfl: And what about Cam & Howard?? How'd everything go???

Oh yeah, wanna hear something so WRONG?? My 72 y/o mom beat her last time in '06 by 18 MINUTES!! Obviously I didn't inherit her "tenacity" gene!:rotfl:

GO EAGLES!:dance3: :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2:

Jodo - Good to hear from you!! 2-3 minutes for a Jodistop? You need to work on that in 2009. I was in and out of a bathroom at DL in less than 50 seconds and I was battling more than tea. :scared1:

Wait a second, didn't you run the full? If not, that would explain why I couldn't track you. I thought it was because you were running too fast to track.

I called Howard on Saturday and he actually picked up around Mile 25. I was expecting to get voice mail but he actually picked up in World Showcase. He said he was struggling a lot with the PF and blisters. I'll let him fill in the details when he and Cam get home.

Good to see that Connecticut is feeling the Eagles love. I was in Philly all day today. It's eerily quiet....not the Red October we had for the Phillies. All I know is this, if we get past the Cardinals it may be time for a road trip to Tampa. Are you in?

Lou

I know how everyone made out because I STAYED AROUND all day Sunday.;)

We arrived home today around noon.

Here are a few small details:
1. I was 4 minutes slower than Philly.
2. My garmin read 26.68 miles for Disney and Philly was 26.29. :confused3
3. I feel great!:thumbsup2 So much so, I am slightly thinking about going for Disney Marathon #5 before I retire. No, I must stop.
4. DH said he thinks he actually, well, kind of, sort of likes you guys.popcorn::

You HAVE to Disney in '10...I'm definitely IN!! My DS wants to do the 1/2!!:yay:

Do tell...what did your, ahem, "husband" (that you picked up @ Winn-Dixie), have to say? Did we scare him popcorn:: popcorn:: ???

BTW, I know your TIMES, you dork! I was just wondering how you all felt!!! .

Lounatic - I had to wait for the porta-potty!!:sad2: . One was open, but there was, um, scary stuff on the seat :scared1: !

Colleen - Congrats!! I tracked you on Sunday and you looked like you were doing good. I can't remember your Philly time but you seemed to be doing fine in WDW.

The thing that kills the Garmin in Philly are the high rises. The GPS readings are not very good around tall buildings. The other thing is WDW had a lot more turns and curves then Philly. I realized later that I didn't run very efficient routes in WDW last year. You have to make sure you run on the inside of curves and cut the corners as close as possible.

I am running WDW in 2010 so you gotta run one more. Not sure about Goofy yet.

Lou

Thanks Lou! Last year and this year, I started 1 mile walk/0.5 mile walk repeats. I felt so good that I ran most of miles 20-26. I think I took maybe 1 or 2 minute walk breaks per mile. I felt much better this year, probably because of the cooler weather.:)
