Hi all,

Just taking a moment to share a bet with all you scrapbookers.

I am the worst when it comes to buying the newest and greatest items and my scraproom recently got out of control!! I could not even find things anymore and then there was all of the stuff where I could say "Oh, I forgot I had that - and went and bought at least two more (seriously!!)

Last September (2009), I was in my room and said to DH that I thought I could go a whole year without buying scrapbook supplies and still scrapbook. He said, "I'll take that bet" and so it began....

We had rules and judges and there was $50.00 on the line.

I was allowed adhesive, cricut mats and blades, and plain cardstock only. The cardstock had to be for a specific page, and I had to use it right away, I could not just stock pile it. I was alos allowed to replace any broken tools (for ex. Crop-o-dile) but it had to be with the same one, not the newest and best model. Thankfully nothing broke.

I was allowed souvenier items from the Olympics (postcards and pins only), but I could not buy scrapbook items.

I was not allowed to buy things and use them for scrapbook (like ornaments, etc). If it was for scrapbooking then it was a no.

The judges were consulted for a few items - like storage containers (which I was allowed) as I was cleaning my room throughout the year.

The bet ran from October 1, 2009 to October 1, 2010.

I DID IT!!

I ran out of bling very early in the year as well as flowers. But I was forced to use all of those other things you accumulate and never get to using. For me it was buttons. They quickly replaced my bling.

I learned that I can make do and that is part of the fun of scrapbooking. Not every page needs bling and/or flowers and I still love all of the pages I did.

Now that it is over, I am going through all of the stuff that I never touched all year and realizing there is still a lot of junk!! I have made two boxes of stuff already that I am donating to the daycare and I am sure there will be a lot more. I am also going to try to sell a few things on Kijiji or Ebay.

So my first day to go shopping, with $50 burning a hole in my pocket, what did I spend???

A whole $8.93 - LOL!! I could not beleive it!! I really looked around and thought "Do I really need this?" and most often the answer was no!!

I did buy a Cricut Cartridge today so my $50 is gone, but again, I thought about it carefully before I bought it.

Thanks for letting me share!!

Congratulations!! that's great will power!

Congrats!!!!

We have a Ban Wagon here but I think we all fell off and the wagon and horses ran away! LOL

However I am going to start the thread up again after the first of the year.We would love to have you give some tips, like how you replaced buttons for bling, etc.

I will join for sure!! Our busget has changed in the last year, so even if I wanted to buy stuff, there is less money to use. I will still need to slow down my spending!! (And, I really need to use what I have!!)

I just about finished rebuilding my scrap room so now DH knows how much stuff I really have.:faint: so now I'm on a supply ban til I use most of it. LOL

I did purge a lot though. I have one more bin to sort then it will all be put away and easier to access.

Great job!

I did a major purge about a year ago and only kept the things I really loved and it's been great!

I found the horses~! They were with TRM... She'll let us have them back when we get the wagon fixed and remove all the staples from previous users!

You're my hero!!! :worship::worship:

I wish I had the courage to do that BUT there is always some embellishment that I need for a special LO (this year has been for the photos of our trip to the Galapagos, year before was our Orlando & Caribbean trip) I just need to stop travelling and then maybe I could do it :rotfl:

Nan:lmao::lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: I haven't fallen off to badly. Other than CKC I haven't bought anything!! till now and I'm about to do a SU order. I haven't even talked mom into buying me stuff.

momtofaith:worship::worship: I could do that infact I just told DH that I can't buy till 1/2 of this is gone. I'm going to a crop the end of the month and HAVE to get a TON of pages done I've slacked so badly

That they do course they have stores close to home. My saving grace is I have a tiny J's and a crummy walmart.

That is absolutely amazing!! I've tried to get on the Ban Wagon every year, but I never seem to last too long!

Have you posted photos of your Galapagos pages anywhere (link?) -- would love to see them. That was the best trip I ever took, but it was way before I started scrapping -- maybe I should go back and change out the photo album for a scrapbook. (But I'm already far behind on current books I'm working on).

And congrats to the OP -- I need to follow your system, but those coupons keep dragging me to M's and ACM! And I'm keeping an eye out in case Wally ever brings down the ridiculously high price of the Lite cricut carts (want a couple of those).

Good for you... You are a stronger woman than I. I would have lost like 4 months ago!!!
Maybe I'll do this in 2 years when we get get our house and my scrapbook room.
Good for you I personally am proud of you:thumbsup2

CONGRATS! that is amazing!!! holy moly!!! I always see scrappin' stuff and just buy it.. I cant help but NEED it. WOW I admire you.

Wow! I wish I could do that. I should do that.

I'm a sale seeker. If it's cheap, I neeeeeeeeeeeed it! I have been better lately, most of my extra money has been going to the cruise we are going on, so I just haven't been able to spend (I don't need to anyhow!).

WTG!
