My dh and I have decided we should've bought more points when we initally purchased our 160 pts. in SSR. We stayed in a one-bedroom with our two dds and now we're spoiled and there's no way we're going back to a studio.
Anyway...what's the best way to purchase more points? Should I go for the same home resort or the same use year (Feb.) or try to find points that combine both? Is it a hassle trying to plan a trip having two separate use years? or two separate home resorts? pixiedust:

We bought our add on points directly from Dis. It just simplified everything. Same use year, same contract number. It's just easier.

The same happened to me. We booked a two br at BWV's because every year/every other year, our whole family goes....We used all kinds of points for that so realized we need more pts.

We had 180 pts at BWV's and wanted to add 130. I asked my guide if we should purchase somewhere else and he suggested not because of the hassle. Having lower amounts of points at multiple places... If you call your guide and ask to add on to your pts. at SSR in the same use year, that can happen but you may have to wait a little longer for the points (but at least you will lock in the price in case they go up even more).

I wanted the same use year so I had to wait about 2 1/2-3 months for my points to come through.

I'd say it depends on a couple of things.

How many points are you adding on? If it is small (under 30?) then I'd just add on at my current home resort and keep it simple.

If you add on through Disney you will automatically get the same Use Year.

Do you want a home booking advantage at a second resort? Do you see yourself wanting to stay at BCV/BWV during F&W Festival? VWL at Christmas? If you want to get a home booking advantage with your new points, and they are adequate to bank & borrow and get you a good reservation, then you might want to go with a second resort.

There is no right or wrong on this. It depends on your situation and what you are trying to accomplish.

BTW, I know what you mean about the 1BR vs studio. Can't say that people haven't been warned here many times about that! :teeth:

We had a similar situation back in '97. We purchased our original 230 and after one stay in a 2 bedroom, decided it was the only way to go, so we added on another 150. Our decision was to add on at our original resort and use year so we could have the 11 month booking window with ALL of our points. In our case it was made simpler by the fact that we didn't care for the smaller unit size at BWV (the only other DVC available at that time), so we knew we wanted to mostly stay at OKW.

Bear in mind that if you buy at something other than SSR, you will have a different end date with those points than the SSR points.
