We own at GCV but are thinking of taking our 8 kids to Disneyworld in early December to experience it with all the Christmas decorations instead of doing Disneyland. Which one is the best?? Our kids range in age from 5-13 for that trip.

I have decided to take two of our boys in March for their birthdays to Disneyworld and we are staying at the Boardwalk so I can plan better when we take everyone.

We are a family of 10 so we need the GrandVilla's to accomodate all of us.

To be honest, and this is only based on what I have read from others, getting a GV in December at the 7 month mark may be very difficult.

That is a really popular time for DVC members and many book their home resorts at 11 months.

We chose OKW for the larger accommodations and the lower point cost. We really enjoyed the GV there.

I would suggest that you take any GV that is available at 7 months. As said earlier you may not be able to get it in December anyway. Make sure you have a back-up plan (a 2 bedroom and studio) but I would just have them look for a GV and take anything available you have the points to book.

I would agree that your chances of getting a GV for Christmas are slim but you should always give it a try and waitlist. With your family size you should go for a 2bd and studio at OKW. That way you have the large living room area for everyone to hang out in and then one parent and some kids can go sleep in the studio. All the other resorts have smaller living rooms which would be crowded for your family, some BLT (the ones on the outside of the curve) are a good size.

We've been able to stay in GV at OKW, SSR, AKV (Jambo), and Vero. OKW and Jambo's were the largest (at WDW.)

Good luck! pixiedust:

Even early December like Dec 4-11?? Aren't most people in school and will take their break later? I was thinking of booking Disneyland at our 11month mark and then switching if I could find something at the 7 month mark. Is that a good idea??

That's one of the most popular times for DVC members. Points are low and decorations are up. Lots of times its hard to get anything at 7 months out.

You may have to switch to a two bedroom and a studio.

I too will be trying to score a GV at 7 months but I am looking for Sat-Tue over Easter Sunday :scared1: I really won't hold my breath for it though.

Any thoughts on that one? Is early December even worse than Spring Break?

If we can't get the GV at 7 mo we will just split up.

I agree that any time in December will be tough to book a GV at 7 months. You might consider renting out your VGC points and then finding a member who will rent you an 11 month reservation for a GV. Good luck!

I consider that week to be "peak of the peak" for DVC members, along with Food & Wine.

The point cost is a bit higher, but you would probably have better luck the 3rd week of December instead of the 1st or 2nd..

Whatever you can get. GV in lowest point time over the holidays will be in high demand. I'd go for whatever's available that you have points for.
