Like Sound Through Water A Mother's Journey Through Auditory Processing Disorder by Karen Foli
It's a new book, but my library was willing to buy it. She never mentioned apraxia, but many of the problems her son had learning to speak sounded like my son's difficulties with speech.
I could identify with just about everything in the book. The author relates her experiences with her son - not knowing what was wrong, trying to work with specialists, trying to choose the most appropriate school, social acceptance, choosing which programs to try, trying to decide how hard to push her child, worrying about siblings, wondering if she was doing enough, etc.
I was near tears many times and that's not usually my style. I kept thinking, "We did that, too!" My oldest two have been diagnosed and have had therapy for APD. I've been warned that my youngest probably has a milder version than the boy in the book and will probably be diagnosed when he's old enough to test, usually age 5-7.
And the best part of the book? It has a happy ending.
