I've recently been to Shanghai and Beijing (i think they are headed there next).

Pardon me for being OT and more than a little nosy. Were you in China to pick up that beautiful little girl in your signature?

I noticed that when John finally got to the clue box at the skyscraper, one of the other racers said "it's the first time he's shown any emotion." I know the editors can make you look good or bad depending on what they need, but it seems like John and Kris are really, truly nice people. When they were at their most frustrated, John pulled his visor over his eyes. For him that's really acting out.

Hayden, on the other hand... GACK!!! Did you catch her looking right into the camera and going "Hah-hah!" when she saw the yield? Is she 5 years old? She's gotta do the rest of their Roadblocks, so I hope they have skydiving or bungee jumping next week. She is such a puke.

ITA! I was so glad that Adam said that about John showing emotion. I turned to DH & said well, I guess it's not just editing with those two. They are so great. I loved it when Kris was saying how hard it was to communicate due to the language barrier, then went on to say that it was their (Kris & Jon's) fault because it is their (the Chinese) country. Then they flip to stupid Hayden who asks for Yen!!!! Ugh, what an idiot. Oh I hope Jon & Kris win. I will be soooo disappointed if they don't.

Further to the Cab thing.....did anyone else notice that when Adam was complaining about not being able to get a cab, the camera focused in on the sticker in the cab with Chinese letters and a symbol of a telephone.
I think that at busy times - morning, lunch, etc you have to call for a cab. Otherwise if they are not busy they can pick you up.
I have encountered this somewhere else, I can't remember off hand where it was but it was very rare that a cab would pick us up by flagging it down.

Good catch, I didn't see that. That combined with them not wanting camera crews in their cabs makes total sense.

When I was in Shanghai and Beijing we were told that cab drivers are a coveted job in China and they can lose their license quickly if enought complaints are filed. The waiting list to be a cab drive is several years long so I can understand why they would be reluctant to pick up anyone traveling with a camera crew.

In addition, some very large international cities have specific locations to hail cabs from and they will not stop if you are not in the right spot. I remember in Paris we were across the street from the pick up point (but with the right direction of the traffic) and they would not pick up us. Finally a polite local explained it to us but before that everyone stood around pointing and laughing at us but never said a word. We were their entertainment for the afternoon.

Adam and Rebecca got to skip one of the Roadblocks when they used the Fast Forward.

So it's all up to Hayden, roadblock-wise, while the rest of the teams still have options.

I haven't read all the pages of this thread, but from those I have read it seems most people side with Rebecca. Even though I agree that Adam is a wussy mama's boy and isn't very assertive, I think Rebecca can be annoying too, and in fact, I believe she causes him to continue in his ways. She annoys me MUCH more than Adam. I sort of laugh at Adam, but Rebecca just gets under my skin.

She had complained one time that she has to do everything herself, yet on more than one occasion it is obvious that Adam is trying very hard to take some responsibility and be the one to secure the airline tickets. However, whenever he insists on letting him help, she completely shuts him out,demeans him, and won't let him help.

What about when they were at the airport and everyone was sleeping over, waiting for the next morning's flight. Adam had quietly changed their flight to an earlier one, and when he told Rebecca, she went and blabbed to another couple. When he got mad at her, she turned it on him and made him seem like the jerk for getting mad at her. I'd have been mad too!

He made some comment to her last night and she just responded by saying, "Stop yelling at me!" I didn't really think he was yelling, just making a comment.

There are so many things here and there that Rebecca says or does to Adam that I think are unfair and then she plays as if she's the victim of the situation.

Wasn't she the one who kept yelling at him to take his sunglasses off, and caused him to leave them behind? What was up with that? Most of the other teams were wearing sunglasses. Maybe she felt she just had to pick on him about something, and since he wasn't doing anything majorly wrong that was the best she could come up with.

She's very belittling towards Adam, and thinks she is always right about everything, which she is not.

Anyway, I just thought I'd put my two cents in about Rebecca and Adam and was curious if there are others that feel the same. I'm sorry if this topic has already been addressed, like I said I haven't read all the pages of this thread (I usually only DIS at work, so I have to limit how much time I spend!).

That's the impression I got. At one point there was a quick shot of what seemed like a queue of people. Could they have been on a queue waiting for a cab?

Thanks! I can't help but think this is really bad for Hayden & Aaron and I am glad about it. I really don't like Hayden. I do like Aaron, though.

OK, here's my take on these two. I think they are both just very immature & their's is a very unhealthy relationship. I like Rebecca cuz I think she's a hoot. She is belittling to him at times, but he is a real wussy boy and a cry baby. DSIL & I get the biggest kick out of Adam when he throws down his backpack & paces back & forth like he's gonna do something. Cracks me up. What about time he said he wanted to go back to the airport & go home. What a baby! I was so glad Rebecca called his bluff. Too funny! They said they came on the show to see if they should give it another try. I think they have gotten their answer. They both need to find someone else.

Yep, I agree about Freddy & Kendra. Seeing them win would be a real downer. Everything will be just fine as long as Jon & Kris win.

I wills ay that at least Adam was thinking last night by getting a cab secured, finding someone who spoke English to help him, etc, while Rebecca was finishing the window washing so they could immediately GO instead of having to hail a cab. It was funny that they kept arguing after the yield timer had run out! Geez people!

I hope the last roadblock is sky diving, or a zip line from a tall building, or that one they did in Australia where they had to repel down a building *face first*! Hayden would DIE!!

I do agree that Rebecca is not always so nice to Adam. I still think Adam is a complete wuss, but it was kind of sad last night when he kept asking her to please just once let him buy the plane tickets and she said no.

I think maybe he's trying to grow up a little and take on some responsibilities. Has anyone else noticed that change in him since the beginning of the race?
Maybe he just needed this time away from his mommy. LOL

I still really like Rebecca though. She's a firecracker.

I guess I have mixed feelings on these two. Honestly, they both drive me nuts! I think their relationship is a perfect picture of dysfunction. He whines to the point that it's positively unbearable, but she enables his behavior. She had to know what she was getting into when she started dating him, so I can only assume that she enjoys the "power" she feels over him. Clearly she wouldn't date him if she wasn't getting something out of it from her perspective. I totally agree that it is ridiculous that she complains that he never does anything, then she won't let him when he tries. Another reason that Rebecca bothers me is that she doesn't seem to think for herself. As one of the other teams pointed out (maybe Freddie and Kendra???), they just watch what others are doing and follow them, and it's gotten them this far. That just really irritates me.

My son-in-law is sort of an Adam. He is an only child, he lived with his parents right up until he married DD, he always worked for his father, and his mother still feels like she gets to tell him what to do, and they've been married 10.5 years. It's kind of sad, because in a lot of ways he's never grown up. He's like Adam in 10 years if nothing changes.

If Rebecca cared about making Adam a better person long term, then she ought to treat him better. But I think she's trying to give her team the best chance of winning. And I think she's decided that they have their best chance if she treats him like a little boy much of the time. When he talked about quitting last week she mocked him, and kind of shamed him into sucking it up.

I'm sure he'd be better off when he "grows up" if she let him do things for himself, but short term she needs to take charge. And it's a 30 day show, so short term is what counts.
