We stayed 5-7 Feb; it was to be a very special weekend for us.
We arrived at 1430 and reception was chaos - put that down to bad timing.
We had added 2 days on to a trip from the UK doing quite a flight deviation so we could have special time for two adults who have had a challenging year and have a lot more challenges coming up. Reservations were made over the phone (international call) and I called back later to confirm a king room and again to make sure our particular celebration was noted. What we were celebrating was noted on the reservation emailed to us.
OK, back to check in; room is not ready; will not be until 1800 - just confirm we will have a king then (we were happy to store luggage and hit Epcot as we only had 2 days of park time). Oh no, they have no note of the calls re the kingsized bed, no room like that is around etc etc. This was really upsetting.
Will cut out all the back and forward conversations but supervisor arrived, told us quite bluntly (maybe correct) that king sized rooms were for handicapped people; disney was set up for families so they did not do other king rooms and next time we book Disney we should remember that. My husband was really unhappy about that, explained to her that coming from the UK, visits were not that frequent and without labouring the point, he quietly said I am not sure there will be a next time which she did not understand
Upshot was we were given one of the non king bed eaves room (disappointed in the smaller size) in Sago Cay (liked the location) which was exactly the category we booked and was to be available in about an hour. So we said OK and further cut back our park time so we could get in.
Our stay was pleasant, not the best because of how it started left a taste in our mouths. We saw lots of people with "Im celebrating" badges which we discovered we should have had a check in but as the lines were always so long at reception we never went and got one.
On the boards here I had read about towel animals and people getting x and y. Giving how it had started and the fact I had wasted a lot on International calls to get a request recorded that was then not actioned I maybe wrongly thought their might be something - even a card to say sorry. We leave a first night tip for mousekeeping on the morning of 6th etc. (which having reread these boards I now realise was about the tip that should have been left by a family of 4 staying 3 nights) Did we get anything, no not even a towel animal which I so wanted (note to mousekeeping, you had probably worked out that the room was occupied by adults only but they also want the fun things).
On check out, another member of staff again did not even note we had such a long flight home (hint UK accents; pile of luggage) and said, hope you can have a drive back for another short break with us soon.
So my guess is whilst very nice surroundings, GF is not for
two night stays
Adults only
those from the UK who are not fully versed with all that they should and should not expect to receive automatically
Maybe its buyers remorse but I think whilst the location was good, I should have saved money and stayed at the Poly or Contemporary and not expected to feel a little more special at the GF
