Day 6 - Thursday, February 8, 2001

Larry and Tara wanted to sleep in this morning, but I didn’t - after all, I can sleep at
home. So I went to early entry at Magic Kingdom and agreed to meet them later in the
morning. I rode the Peter Pan ride (one of my favorites), the Snow White ride and saw
the Lion King puppet show. In one of the lines, someone asked me how I got to be a
guest of honor (looking at my badge), and I explained that anyone could buy one. I
started to make up some elaborate story about how I saved Michael Eisner’s life and he
was so grateful, he made me a guest of honor, but I didn’t think anyone would buy it.

I made my way over to the Main Street Bakery and had a HUGE cinnamon roll that was
absolutely delicious with a cup of coffee and a carton of milk. I saw a bride and groom
come in with the mickey ears bride and groom hats on. I gave them my congratulations
and told them that my husband and I had come to Disney World on our honeymoon 17
years ago and that it was a great way to begin a marriage! The bride said “17 years?
Wow, that’s great - I hope we make it 17 years!” Her husband seemed to be a little bit
taken aback by that, but she assured him she was just joking.

By this time, my feet were beginning to hurt a lot and I was developing blisters. We had
used the anti-perspirant on our feet that I read about on these boards, but we still ended
up developing blisters by the end of the week. I was also taking a lot of prescription pain
medication by this time, as I normally am not able to do this much walking. My doctor
had prescribed what he thought I would need for this trip, and I managed to do fairly well
for most of the time. I didn’t need to rent a wheelchair, but would have done so if it had
become necessary.

I met my family at the Country Bear Jamboree, and we went in to see the show together.
I wanted to ride the riverboat, but it was closed for refurbishment. The Hall of Presidents
was also closed, although I wasn’t particularly interested in this attraction. In case
anyone else is, I think it will be closed for some time so they can add the new president
to it. We hopped a monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center, changed to a
monorail for Epcot, and walked over to the World Showcase. We got a beavertail to
share in Canada, but we were not impressed with this. It had a good flavor, but was
extremely tough and hard to chew, especially for Tara who has braces. We won’t be
getting another one of these.

We went on to France to see the movie. Dad rested outside while Tara and I saw this. I
enjoyed it very much - it was beautiful and the music was terrific. We went on from
there to the American Adventure, but decided we would not have time to see this and get
to our 5:00 pm Hoop-Dee-Doo show. I did not want to be late for this, so we began to
make our way back to the Ticket and Transportation Center to catch a bus for Pioneer
Hall.

At this point, I have to mention that my daughter and husband had been severely bitten by
the pin trading bug. Once my daughter got that O’Malley pin in her surprise event at
Magic Kingdom on Tuesday, she decided that she had to have the whole set, as well as
any other pins that caught her fancy. By this point in the trip, she had about 30 pins on a
lanyard and not only had the O’Malley pin, but also Duchess (the mom), Toulouse and
Berlioz (the male kittens) and only need Marie (the female kitten) to have the complete
set of main characters from the Aristocats movie. We had looked for Marie everywhere,
either to buy or trade, but no one had her. We stopped at a gift shop just before the bus
stop for the Pioneer Hall bus, and the CM there said she didn’t have the Marie pin, but
she could call someone to find out where it was sold. When she did, the CM on the other
end of the phone talked to my husband and said that he could call the warehouse where
they were distributed and see how many they had so we could get one. When he did, he
said that this pin was no longer made and they only had 8 in the whole warehouse
(apparently, they normally had thousands of each pin). He said that if we had waited a
few more minutes, there probably wouldn’t have been any left at all! We gave him our
credit card number, and he is mailing the Marie pin to us at home. Tara was thrilled
beyond words, and we thanked the CM on the phone, as well as the CM who volunteered
to help us find the pin by making the original call. You both made our daughter’s day!
She received her pin about a week after we got home and was thrilled with it! Disney
magic never stops!

Once we got off the Pioneer Hall bus, we checked in for our show and soon we were
being shown to our table. We had the center table in the second row on the floor, directly
in front of the stage - extremely good seats! The food here was excellent, especially the
fried chicken and the bread. We ate and drank until we were stuffed, but the best part
was the show. We thought it was hysterically funny. The best part was when Sixpence
and Dolly divided the audience to see which side could make the most noise. Dolly’s
side was supposed to clap their hands, and Sixpence’s side was supposed to make a
sound like a train whistle - Toot, toot! We were on Sixpence’s side, so when our turn
came, we toot tooted for all we were worth. All of a sudden, Dolly said “I have to meet
this man, I heard him toot tooting all the way up here.” It was my husband she wanted to
meet! She came over to him and said “You have the cutest little toot I ever heard.
What’s your name?” He was overcome with shyness and so he replied “I don’t have
one.” She said “Yes, you do. What’s his name?” - looking at me. I said “It’s Larry.” So
she said “Everybody say Hi, Larry.” Which of course, everybody did. She continued on
about how enthusiastic he was in the show until Sixpence said “Hey, Dolly. Larry’s on
my side.” So Dolly sat on his lap and said “Not no more, he ain’t.” I was rolling in the
floor, it was SO funny and Tara thought it was an absolute blast. When Dolly went back
up on stage, she then proceeded to instruct her side of the audience AND Larry to stomp
their feet and whistle, with Sixpence telling Larry he better not help her. When they went
on to the next skit, we thought that was it for his participation, but the best was yet to
come. At one point, Sixpence and another male player (I forget his name) were arguing
over who Dolly would want to kiss as part of the show. The first man said “It’s me” and
Sixpence said “No, it’s me” and then Dolly said “No, it’s Larry” and she came back into
the audience and gave him a big kiss on the cheek. Then she put her hands on my
shoulders and said “Don’t worry ma’am, it’s just a friendly show.” By this time, Larry is
looking at me saying “Do you think we can get a picture of me with her?” But of course,
by the time the show was over, we couldn’t get to them for any pictures. Still, it was an
absolute hoot and we had a wonderful time. Even the family picture we had taken there
was good, and I bought the 5 x 7 and the two refrigerator magnets, even though $20.00
was a little steep for only three pictures. Still, it’s Disney World and that was the only
picture they took that we bought.

On the bus ride back to Dixie (which was kind of long), everybody kept saying “Look,
it’s Larry” and he kept laughing at being called the star of the show. It was a really
terrific night. We were going to go to the campfire program and see the Electric Water
Pageant, but we were worn out and so we will have to do that next time.

On to day 7!

Dont you wish you had remembered your video camera for such a fun evening. I never have my camera on the times that my DH is caught doing something funny!
