Thats why I HATE WDW resort pools!!!

We have stayed at a couple different WDW resorts the past couple of summer and I hate the pools. Reason being is the water is so warm that it feels like swimming in bath water, not to mention its perfect temp to breed all types of organisms. Well, we are staying at POR this Aug and I found this statement on the portorleans.org website reference pools; "Pool Temperature: 82 degrees (standard at all Walt Disney World Resorts)". Are you kidding me?!?!? WDW keeps all their pools at 82 degrees??? It's 100 degrees outside everyday, why do they need to keep the pools at 82 degrees? I want nice cool water, not warm. Anyway, I'm off my soapbox. Peace.

I suggest you use a good thermometer and fill your bathtub full of water at 82 degrees. I think you will find that this is quite substantially cooler than the average person's idea of bath water. If it's 100 degrees outside, that water will feel quite cool by comparison. If it's 50 degrees outside (winter months), that same water will feel very warm by comparison.

I wouldn't worry about the water temperature causing rampant bacterial growth in the pools. That's what pool chemicals are for. I'd be more concerned about the number of kids(?) peeing in the pool.

In the warmer summer months, I somehow doubt that Disney is able to refrigerate the pool water to your preferred level of coolness. With the ambient temps and relative humidity so consistently high in the summer, it would take some kind of very expensive Disney magic to keep the pools from warming up. Not sure what you expect them to do about it.

Try the Poly Volcano pool - I wasn't able to swim there in August because I thought it was freezing. Otherwise I've been comfortable in the pools.

I don't think 82 is warm. I like it like 86. I know to each his own. I think 82 is a fair temp to keep the pools. Can't make everyone happy!

We don't go much during the hottest part of summer, but pool temps have always felt about right. I suppose that is a subjective thing

Same here in October when we went, the water was cold to me ! I didnt swim much except once in the middle of the day when it was nice and hot out and I still thought the water was cold

Expressing an opinion is okay - but when you use the word "hate" that is going to get some reaction. Again, temperature is subjective. Disney has everything down to a science - I don't think they are going to keep the water temperature at a level that breeds organisms. They have thousands swimming every day without an issue. Just my two cents.

What you OP think is too warm many people find to be cool or just right. Funny thing is you see a lot of complaints that the pools are too cold. There is no making everyone happy on this.

If you think the pool is warm I suggest you hop in the hot tub for a bit, and then hop in the pool. It will feel cold to you then!

I thought the pools were only heated to 80º? But I'm with you, the pool water is too hot in the summer. I bet the pool water gets warmer than that just because of the air temps.

We were there last August and the pool temp at the BC was perfect! Refreshing compared to the 100 degree air!!!

In May we were at beach club and thought water felt nice-definitely did not feel like bathwater, but you are right, definitely not a "brisk" pool environment. (But after a whole year of taking my toddler son to swim lessons at a local college where to accommodate the college swim team, they keep it so cool that even the parents have to force themselves in and practically drag our little troopers, and we literally have to watch that our kids lips not turning blue after just a half hour-sometimes less- this is a nice reprieve.)

The sun and the high summer temps make it hard to cool the pool down. We have a pool in our back yard and last year when we were having some really hot streaks our pool easily hit 90 degrees and it wasn't refreshing anymore. The only thing I could do is drain some water out every night and put some fresh cold water in and it took several days of doing this to get the temp to drop. Oh and I do not have a heater for my pool it is all heated by natural sunlight.

Some things are just out of people's control. I'm sure they could add some coolers and while filtering the water it could filter through there but I'm sure that would be quite pricey.

IMO a warm pool is better than no pool!!!

Unfortunately if they cooled the water temp they would get even more complaints. I like the water warm myself and 82 degrees is slightly coolish in my world

Strange post. I feel the need to comment though. If you do a little research you'll actually see that that's a pretty standard temperature to keep a leisure pool at. The only time you'd want one cooler is if training/exercise is going on it. And you don't have to worry about 'organisms'; that's what the chemicals are for.

Funny.. dh's parents have a pool and dh refuses to get in it unless it's 80 or above or it's too cold for him. I've never found the temperature at the WDW pools (and now that I think of it.. there's been many of them!) too be too hot. It's never been a problem for us. Maybe I just can't feel the temperature because there's so many people in them in August

Wow. I thought this was a place people could talk about the good and not-so-good of WDW. I apologize for saying I "hate" the pools, didn't mean to hurt anyone's magic feelings. Members here discuss everything from what color socks to wear at WDW to should someone have ketchup on a hot dog or not, but leave it to me to touch a nerve about my dislike of the pool temp. I'll be sure to keep my comments to positive things only from now on.
