That Indescribable WDW Feeling

PeterP- How very much your mind thinks like mine. There are no words to describe the feelings, but you came pretty close. My sons are 22 and 16 and they still "get it." We are a Disney family and it is part of who we are. I can sit on my deck some afternoons, put in a Disney cd, close my eyes, and I can smell the food wafting from Pinocchio's Village Hause, or hear one of Cosmic Ray's corny jokes. Although I live 13 hours from WDW it is never far from my heart and mind... I take it with me every where I go!

I am glad it is not just me...thinking of Disney and our time there is with me everyday! Literally!

PeterP - Thank you! It is so nice to know that others feel exactly the same way. My kids will turn and watch me during Wishes, Fantasmic and Illuminations and say "Wait for it. Here it comes." And I start to cry on cue. What they don't understand is that it is all about being with them and all the wonderful memories we have shared together at our 'happy place.' For 25 years, as they have grown in their Disney experiences, I have watched and recorded each one. It has been a wonderful journey together and each time I am just thankful and grateful that we are all still together loving and living each moment. Thanks again..everyone!

We are just 3 short weeks from our first ever trip to Disney. I have wanted to go since I was just little and the first thing I swear I want to do is ride the Dumbos!

The feelings you describe are everything I hope it will be and my DD just cant wait to take pics of me crying at everything lol. Step onto Main St...gonna cry, Magic Memories and You? Yep, tears... Wishes...dont even get me started and this is just from watching things on YouTube!! :rotfl:

I have been scouring this board for the past few months trying to learn everything I can to have the most fulfilling week we can have and have already realized that I am planning our next trip and I havent even been on the first! I can't wait to get there and experience it all!!!

I think you summed up everything perfectly! Everything you said is what brings us back and brings us here to the Disboards in the interim.

My family and I are total Disney lovers so we are lucky that we can feed off each other. My DW she likes the movies more than the theme parks, but we are still working on her. ;) We are taking my DD down for the first time (as you can see in my signature) this weekend. I'm so excited to share memories that I have from my childhood with her. She is only 17 months, but I can tell she is going to be another Disney lover! She LOVES Mickey, Minnie, Tigger, Mike Wazowski, and Sully. Her eyes light up at the sight of any of them!

And I think that's the most magical part of Disney; it's something that can be shared and loved across generations.

Very nice job describing how WDW affects us.

My (now grown up) daughters say they "put something in the air" that causes us to feel the way we do.

In our family, its my two daughters and me that "get it". My DW likes to come along and definitely has a very good time, but she doesn't "need" to go back like the rest of us do.

I can get a fix just by cruising through the local Disney Store. Seeing the products and costumed CMs with their Disney name tags takes me back, if only for a few minutes. :)

I love your post!
When you tell or surprise your children and tell them "we're going to Disney World", there are screams of joy and tears. What other vacation destination gets this kind of response?

Our DS was seven when we took our first WDW/DCL vacation. That was nearly 13 years ago, and a WDW or DCL vacation is probably the only vacation that he will get excited about taking with DW and me. Anywhere else and he would rather stay behind to be with friends.

And a WDW vacation is the ONLY vacation; when I walk into the lobby of the resort and go WOW, this is very cool. And when you wander the rest of the resort it is the only way to go. We will NEVER stay off site again as long as we continue to go on WDW vacations. And I'm hoping to go many times more for a very long time.

I'm getting excited for you just reading about your first trip coming up! There is nothing as wonderful as that first walk into the Magic Kingdom!

I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip; I know you will make lasting memories!

You have described what WDW does to you perfectly!

I recently travelled to WDW with my girlfriend, who did not "get it." It was her first visit and my fourth. She now cannot wait to go back!!

To coin yet another Disney phrase, WDW is my "lauging place" :)

I'm a Disney Orphan, also. Nobody in my immediate family gets it like I do, either; my brother even makes fun of me for it. I don't care though. The joy I get from WDW is immeasurable. I have several cousins and very good friends who are Disney fans and that's enough for me.
It is a very special feeling. It's wonderful, comforting, energizing and inspiring. And, it's not just that it makes kids so happy (which of course is wonderful), but it allows adults to be as happy as kids and that is, of course, the secret. When adults can be as happy as kids, that's when everything is right with the world. And it's why we all feel so good being there and want to be there when we aren't.
Awww, you can be my DIS cousin if you want.:goodvibes;)

I wish we still had a Disney Store in Rhode Island.:sad1: We had those big floods a couple of years ago that inundated the mall. When the mall reopened, the Disney Store was gone.

Now, I have to drive to the mall in Attleboro Mass. to get my fix. The drive is under an hour but it used to be 10 minutes..

This is a great thread! I needed to get a tissue, while reading it all. I first went to WDW as a young child, when it first opened. It was LOVE at first sight! :lovestruc

I am lucky that my DH and DS's love it as much as I do. I cry when the MK opens in the morning. Tears of total joy and happiness!

I agree with others who said people either get it or they don't. I get it and look forward to every trip.

Have a magical day! :cloud9:

For me, I'm getting all choked up just thinking about our next trip, siply because I can finally get to return the favor by bringing our parents to WDW instead of the other way around. It was because of them that I believe that dreams come true. Our buying into DVC is proof of that, and it is simply the least I can do for such wondeful parents and role models in my life!
