It will break your car window glass if you car goes under water

What everyone who is bringing up busses and monorail fail to be mentioning is that this Skyliner is a different kettle of fish when it goes down.

Monorail down and it’s one train, not that high, not dangling from a wire.

Bus crash and yep, can be nasty. but everyone is fully aware and accepting of motor vehicle accidents, you can usually just step out and it isn’t dangling from a wire.

Gondola break down- dozens and dozens of them have to be evacuated, some from great height, dangling from a wire- over rooftops, highways and lakes. You may have to rappell down, or be cherry picked via a platform on a moving boat.

Disney are very lucky this did not happen at 2pm mid July, I believe we could have been looking at a very nasty scenario. That’s what people are worried about.

and airlines are very lucky that airplanes don’t crash. Can’t just jump out

They work on the probability that it won't happen so they won't have them fitted. Because as xuxa777 says they are the safest form of transport there is, they never fail.

For those who aren't familiar with them and are curious, that's probably an emesis sickness bag, for throwing up.

The Skyliner has passive cooling (i.e. large open vents) I think that even on a hot day when stopped the wind should cool down the interior sufficiently, it's not like being in a greenhouse which is a closed system. Disney would have comprehensively tested this ensuring that even in a worst case scenario the people on board wouldn't broil.

I live in the South. There is no wind in August, unless you live on the coast. Making these things enclosed glass boxes without active ventilation is a very weird choice. Gondolas at parks like Busch Gardens, Six Flags, etc, are open. Not ideal in a storm, but better in the heat.

Heights when I am standing, particularly if its open around me, cause a panic attack. So a roller coaster is fine as I am sitting, but stand on a chair to hang a decoration and I have to talk myself into stepping off it to get down. As such, when a CM once talked to me about fire ladders being used to evacuate the monorail because “they can only push it so far” I had serious misgivings about getting on it again because I cannot do a ladder, but as I like the Poly, the monorail is a necessary evil. I don’t stay at any of the skyliner resort and, had they gone direct between HS and Epcot might have used them to get to HS and avoid the long walk or boat ride with all its stops When staying at an Epcot resort. But they don’t go direct and nothing about any of it before this sounded particularly pleasant, so I would use another option.

At this point, Disney should just stage a bus breakdown and evacuation to change the subject. I'm sure this issue will be fixed, the gondolas will reopen and be back up and running, the planet will begin rotating on it's axis, and life as we knew it before will resume once again. That is, until the next time something malfunctions and everyone has to again share their fear of heights, claustrophobia, and other general discomfort and why they'll never ride whatever it is again. Yet, the lines will continue to be long anyway. Funny how that works.

Cars and buses never break down or crash.

You can exit a car or bus or open the window to get some air. The gondolas have NO a/c and I doubt very much there is any air movement when you are stuck many feet in the air and cannot open a window. Also, what if it was mid july and 98 degrees outside with the sun baking you while you are stuck in one??? Very bad analogy you gave!

So it's acceptable to you for it to take Disney 3 hours to rescue you while you are stuck in a capsule with no windows in the florida heat with no a/c or air movement??? Sorry, everything aside, people could of been injured if it was in the middle of the day in very hot weather.

Pretty much. We do tend to jump from one disney outrage to the next (I'm as guilty as anyone of that, I must admit) so that's probably their best "out" on this one. Obviously some people won't ride the Skyliner for whatever reason, and that's certainly their choice, but ultimately this will blow over like everything else.

I really wanted to try this on our next trip, even with my fear of heights. I do well on the skylift at Stone Mountain, so I figured I could do the Gondolas here at Disney. But just the thought of what happened to those being stuck for what, 3 hours...makes me apprehensive now. I'll just stick to the Monorail, then the buses back to my resort or my car.

There are no windows in the gondola cars? You might want to check your facts.

I’m just going to say it. How will the evacuation of a 400 pound guest with mobility issues in an ECV go? That would not be an easy rescue. How about a patient in a wheelchair that can’t transfer? There is not a lot of room for first responders to work in the gondola with a mobility device present.

This is an excellent point and obviously one Disney did not take into consideration or just ignored.
