We are going to be camping at FW during Thanksgiving week, Sat-Fri. There will be 5-6 of us, including my very mentally handicapped son. We had hoped to go to HDD, but after giving it a lot of thought, decided that DS10 would not tolerate sitting still for that long(boo-hoo!) We considered hiring a babysitter, but I don't feel comfortable about leaving him with a total stranger(he's nonverbal and very, very active). So we are trying to come up with some other ideas for family meals.

We like to eat out about once a day, having breakfast at the camper and a light supper/snack when we return for the day. At Epcot we'll definitely go to Le Cellier for cheese soup & breadsticks. Thought we'd try either Crystal Palace or Columbia House at MK. We've been to CRT several times. What do you recommend at AKL? Flame Tree BBQ? (We won't be going to MGM this time around.)

I thought for the first night we'd like to go to Rainforest Cafe in DTD--do they take PS? Other suggestions, perhaps? Boma? We will be there through Thanksgiving, so we will also be looking for a non-park restaurant that day also--What would you suggest? Trails' End? 'Ohana? Golden Corral? I'm not cooking a turkey in my pop-up!

How soon have we make our PS? would it make any sense for us to get MYW meals?

I would post this on the disAbilities board. There a lot of people there that have experience with both dining and special needs.

We took my autistic son to HDD at an early age, and I spent more time walking around with him than watching the show. At age 15, he did sit and eat, not interested in the show. I believe the sitters you hire thru Disney are bonded, and you could ask if any have experience with special needs.

Maybe there is someone in your party that would volunteer to stay behind so you could relax and enjoy the show? Thats what we did one time, DH took others to HDD, and I stayed behind. The next night, I went with others to a sit down and DH ate counter service at MK.

As far as good, sit-down meals, they are almost non-existant with our son.

You need to either do counter service, or pick an off time to have a sit down meal. We did well at Rainforst Cafe in DTD; you get a time to return and then there is a few minute wait to get a table. However, it is loud and "busy" which may be overstimulating. No reservations given.

Thanks, I think I will post this over at disABILITIES. We don't always take our son to WDW, because sometimes we just want to have a normal vacation. But this is our family trip and we didn't want to leave him out or have anyone give up something special for him--you know, "'ohana", nobody gets left behind.
