I want hear your comments, I know they are hard to get on this board ;), I read where you can book a whole month then cancel what you don't want to use. The week of Thanksgiving 2010 is booked up right now. However, searching for the whole month yeilds a popup site that is available. Is it bad manners to book a whole month with the intent of calling and dropping the other weeks? What is the consensus from the Fiends and Friends on this board? Is this like renting a "throw away" site? We have ressies for Christmas but would prefer Thanksgiving. Thanks.

Not bad manners at all! Just don't hold on to the extra days too long.

Agree. It's a shame WDW's ressie system forces you to do this to get the days you want, but there you have it. Drop the extra days asap - no harm, no foul.

Okay, I went ahead and did it -- thanks to those that commented you helped me be brave:worship:. Now the awkward part:scared:, calling in and cancelling the Christmas dates and the 22 days I am not using in November. How do the reservation CMs respond when you do this? Should I cancel them both at the same time or should I cancel Christmas and then follow up later with a modification to the November dates? Does it really matter and am I just being a pansy:confused3? I guess I will need to change my ticker, again.

I would cancel all the unneeded dates with one call. Just have the confirmation numbers handy when you call and go ahead and drop the dates. I have made requests before to drop dates, combine reservations, etc.., and the CM's have NEVER seemed put off at all by my requests. Especially in your case...you are cancelling dates 6 months in the future, leaving PLENTY of time for others to grab them. No reason to feel bad at all.

Glad you got the dates you wanted!!

I'm feeling guilty. I booked Thanksgiving about 6 months ago and had to do like 3 weeks to get the days I wanted. I better call today and cancel them. Thanks for posting this to remind me.

Can you impeach a mayor for such behavior? :rotfl:

I have cancelled my Christmas ressies from the 18th-24th on a pop up site. I modified the month long November ressie down to the 20-28th. The CM gave me no troubles at all. Thanks for all of your opinions and guidance. Now who is going to be there over Thanksgiving? Can't wait to figure out the green mickey sign and maybe a lamp post now. :cool1:

It didn't hurt a bit to do this, did it? Just think - you gave a call center person some job security. They get the same rate of pay whether you are making or canceling a ressie. If Disney wasn't so greedy, our hands wouldn't be forced to play games with their systems.

My family and I will be there Nov. 26 - Dec. 4. I've got to get to work on my green mickey sign and lamp post also. Maybe we'll run into each other come November!

It did not hurt a bit to talk with the CM she was great. I hope she gets a little security from our visit we should be spending some bucks.

It would be great to see some people from the board. We will be in the 1500 or 2000 loop since we have a pop up site. I plan on taking my computer and air card so I can post somethings while we are there. The wife and I have been planning meals, ADRs, and other stuff already. The 180 day mark is only 2 weeks away, May 24th. Can't wait to get the sign and post out. We aren't planning on telling the kids if we can stand it. We want them to think we are going on a regular ole camping trip.

I also did exactly this. Booked longer and cancelled the unneeded days...the way I see it they set up the rules, if they wanted to discourage this practive I suppose they could add penalties or advance payment or something that would make me think twice, as is though I have my dates and can't wait to go...
