Thanksgiving plans??

We downsized to a turkey breast and smaller portions of the sides. For us, it's not Thanksgiving without homemade mac &. cheese, green beans, skillet fried corn (a version of creamed corn) and red velvet cake.

Volunteer at your local community dining room or homeless shelter serving others. It's very satisfying and rewarding and you get to eat with everyone. It's something your family will never forget.

This is what me and kids do when husband works thanksgiving.

Its very humbling experience and worth it.

We are traveling to the Ozarks for some rest and relaxation and we'll let a hotel do the cooking for us! We used to do this every year and my DH who travels a lot for work and usually doesn't want to do anything is really excited at the prospect of going back.

I do a scaled down version of thanksgiving foods. Working retail it is a crazy busy weekend and I refuse to wear myself out ahead of it.

I have a turkey, gravy, dressing, instant mashed potatos, coleslaw and a chocolate pie. I would cut out the dessert but DH is grumpy enough with my scaled down version.

When the kids leave and start coming over I will start cooking more again.

Just had our Thanksgiving last weekend. The entire family went to the cottage (so 15 of us). My mom and I did 3 large turkey breasts and all the traditional sides with pumpkin pie for dessert. It was a hit but a lot of work for that many people in a tiny kitchen. I helped mom at the start and the end but may have gotten the green light to go take a nap and ran with it.::yes:: (my other siblings wandered in and out to help as well).

Today we are hosting my inlaws. I have just put my 22 pound bird in the oven. That's pretty much twice as much as I need for the 9 of us but I wanted tons of leftovers.
I am doing instant stuffing because mine never turns out the way I want it:worried:, roast cauliflower and carrots, green beans, salad, rolls, mashed potatoes, and my inlaws are bringing dessert.
It's not a difficult meal, it's just time consuming and relies so much on the timing at the end. That always makes me a bit of a stressball but it's worth it in the end.:)

Well we go "traditional" on thanksgiving because we don't eat turkey and the fixings any other time of the year. For us it is something different. Just different from our normal routine, not from what everyone else does that day.

However, Christmas is our weird one. It's assorted appetizers my grandfather makes on Christmas Eve (friend shrimp, sausage meatballs, etc) and BBQ on Christmas Day. I personally don't like it, but my family got tired of doing big giant meals two months in a row.

If it were up to me, I'd keep it very simple. Unless I were going out, I'd try to recreate my favorite cruise ship meal: Pumpkin Soup, Turkey Tenderloins and Baby Peas with Farfalle in Cream sauce, and Bitter and Blanc (dark and white chocolate) Bread Pudding.

Or I'd play with an Italian theme: Red Wine braised turkey drumsticks alongside polenta, with balsamic Brussels sprouts with cranberries, and pumpkin tiramisu for dessert.

I'd still rather go out for Thanksgiving dinner.

We used to go out every year, but since having DD and the changes in our life, we now cook at home. This year my inlaws will be down, and I am planning to cook a full meal. I love having left overs and missed that when going out. I will also be decorating my house which is also new traditions for us

I just had a baby and I know I'm not going to be up for cooking so we're renting a house near Orlando with a pool and ordering food in from Whole Foods. My parents will come and it should be a relaxing long weekend with a little Disney time thrown in.

Uggg, I have no idea what we are doing this year. I talked to my sister-in-law last week and we are both trying to decide what to do. We both love to cook and have done the whole deal for over 30 years. This year I am in a wheelchair and my kitchen isn't set-up for me to cook-in, my mom has dementia and my dad and I are her full-time caregivers. I now live over there 4 day a week. Mom will go nuts having all those people in her condo. My house is small with one bathroom, so I can't really feed 18 people plus have my wheelchair and my brother lives in KY so driving mom 3 hours isn't in the cards. I voted meeting 1/2 way at a restaurant, but mom doesn't do well eating out plus the whole driving thing. I would love to call it off, but I am afraid if we start to call if off, it will just get too easy to call off and we will never get back to getting together. Having it on another day isn't in the picture because we have kids away at college and our other kids work on weekends so that leaves those days out.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I just keep thinking about it to avoid thinking about what we are going to do at Christmas!!!!

It's only me and DD14 for Thanksgiving in our house. And neither of us really likes turkey. So we just nosh on our favorite appetizers all day long as we watch Christmas movies. That's been our tradition the last 5 years or so. I'd like to change it to go out to a seafood restaurant here in town that is open, but DD was upset when I mentioned it - she really likes the appetizer thing!

This sounds divine! I like my traditional Thanksgiving meal but I'd pass it up for your idea any day of the year. I'm certain it's a tradition she will cherish.
