Thanksgiving or NYE week

Due to some uncertainties, we did not book our home resort for either this coming Thanksgiving or NYE. As a result, no availability currently for the full week of Thanksgiving (we've got two waitlists).

Our other option is the week of New Years. Our home resort is BLT so no chance of booking a "just in case" reservation there b/c it's sold out already for that week. What are the chances of anything being available for that whole week at the 7 month mark? Should we just suck it up and pay cash for a room and save our points for next time to guarantee we have a place to stay and cancel the cash reservation if a waitlist happens to come through?

Totally poor planning on my part, i'm aware (and this is one of the negatives of owning at BLT - it's not always easy to get that just in case reservation). Just trying to weigh my options at this point. Thanks for any feedback.

You say NYE and then the week but not sure whether you are referring to Christmas week or one in which NYE is in the middle of the week. In any event, it is highly likely SSR will be open Christmas week and entire week NYE falls in at 7 months out. Also, decent chance for OKW, outside chance for AKV savanna or standard view, and likely about zero chance anywhere else until about Jan 3 or after. Note if looking for 1BR chances go up somewhat.

You will likely have a better chance at NYE week than this Thanksgiving, due to when it falls this year. The busiest week at DVC is first week of Dec and Thanksgiving falls really late this year, having that first week of December just days away. People trying to get those low point first week of December are likely also using/waitlisting the Thanksgiving prior.... just the way it falls this year.

Also, you have a MUCH better chance of getting your home resort within the 11-7 month booking window as people who can only begin booking BLT at 7 months do not even have the opportunity to waitlist it yet.... less competition= more likely to have waitlist filled!!! Good luck

If you are looking at starting the reservation on Jan 1 and going through Jan 8, you are running into marathon week. You might find something at OKW or SSR.

FWIW this past new years we stayed at ssr and i booked the 1 bedroom in october, three months out.

Yes, the Marathon weekend is Jan 8-12, but before that you may be OK!

You might also want to waitlist at BLT now for NYE -- before the 7 monthers get the opportunity. As the 7 month window opens, there may be some movement as BLT owners having a BLT ressie make reservations elsewhere. Probably not much movement, but maybe some.
