Thanksgiving availability?

I'm trying to make a last minute trip for Thanksgiving this year and I noticed that most, if not all, resorts are booked for Thanksgiving day. I'm obviously hoping that people will cancel as we get closer to the date...does anyone know or have any experience that this is the case?

I'm guessing that many people make reservations for the major holidays at their 11 or 7 month window just so they can have it and then as they get closer to the date, end up cancelling.

Thanks for any comments!

If you really want to go and you haven't already, my advice is to make a back up reservation somewhere for cash.

IMO, there is very little chance something will open up for you at this point. There are undoubtedly several ahead of you on the waitlists. Unless you are very lucky and can catch a cancellation before the waitlist process catches it, getting Thanksgiving night will be virtually impossible. Sorry to be so negative about it, but that's my honest take on it. Be sure to check the website a often as you can, especially around the 60 day and the 29-35 day marks. In my experience, that will probably be when your chance of catching cancellations are greatest between now and a Thanksgiving week arrival.

Good luck!

Agree with above. It is not likely true that a lot of members reserve Thanksgiving at the 11 month and 7 month window just in case they might decide to go and then cancel before going. Many may reserve at 11 months out with the hope of switching resorts at 7, but once you are beyond the 7 month window, you have a group that essentially is going during Thanksgivng absent some real reason that causes a cancellation to occur, and then you have wait lists to fill any actual cancellation. There is always some chance of getting something, particularly for a large resort like SSR or OKW, but better to be on a wait list, while also checking regularly for an opening, to maximize any chance you have.

I see most resorts have partial availability that week. I would do one of 2 things, without much procrastination...1. Book a resort on cash, or 2. Book DVC resorts with one move, hopefully within the same resort. I would say this, look at the larger resorts 1st as they will have more likely scenario to make the move happen rather than the smaller resorts

Don't know what has happened since this morning, but today Poly standard studios opened up for much of November and December, including for all of Thanksgiving week and Christmas week. This likely results from Disney declaring new units into Poly. So check and see if something is still there.
