Thanksgiving Appetizers: What Are You Serving?

We usually just do stuffed celery, a vegetable relish tray, and pickles/olives. These are actually placed on the dinner table because technically they are to be served with dinner. However, never once have they been actually eaten with dinner....38 years and those olives make it on the fingers of various children's hands ahead of time. Besides---stuffed celery tastes great BEFORE the meal---but with options like stuffing, gravy, and green bean casserole---who wants celery then?

My family has dinner at 5pm, we start with appetizers around 12pm. We have another one about every hour till dinner while everyone hangs out, chats, watches Miracle on 34th Street on tv and I cook.

I call eating at 1pm lunch, dinner (for us) is the evening meal. We have dessert closer to 7pm.

If I was serving the holiday meal at lunchtime than I wouldn't serve appetizers, but obviously I can't starve everyone till 5pm.

It sounds like whether or not you have appetizers depends a lot on when you eat.

We go to my cousins house at 3 but we dont have dinner until 6. But for us a lot of that has to do with my family having time issues. For some reason, half my family thinks that when you tell them 3, that means 4 or 5. So we figure it gives people a 3 hour window before dinner to show up...lol

We do apps. We usually have dinner around 2:00 and people start arriving around 11:00-12:00 ready to eat. I've never heard of anyone not doing apps. I'd feel awkward having everyone in my house with nothing to snack on while the turkey finishes cooking. Plus, it tends to keep them out of the kitchen.:thumbsup2

We typically have
Baked stuffed clams (crowd favorite, absolute must do)
Shrimp Cocktail
Veggies and dip
Cheese and crackers
Mulled Cider (not really an app, but that's when we serve it)

This sounds exactly like my family. If you show up late you miss the appetizers, but that also means you don't have to bring one. ;)

We have dinner at 1, but people start showing up around 1130. And so we have a ton of appetizers.

usually artichoke dip, cheese/crackers, cheeseball, relish tray, guacamole, and crab dip. Trying to come up with something different this year..
