Mod-We're not sure where this belongs, so please move with our compliments:goodvibes

Never too early to plan--Thanksgiving Day 2007
Dilemma: will need a light meal somewhere between 5 pm - 9 pm. 3 adults
We will have eaten Thanksgiving dinner
Requirements: can be off site, sandwiches, soups; decent burgers.
We are figuring on WDW restaurants being packed.

Is WDW cs extraordinarily busy on turkey day itself? Should we opt for room service (we'll be at SSR in a studio)? DH is wincing at rs pricing!

We are assuming the food markets will be closed, is this correct?

Thanks in advance!
Jean & Chris

not sure how long you are staying at the World, but I would have the Garden Grocer deliver supplies and food for your stay.

then you can not only enjoy a light meal that day, you could have breakfast in the room and snack foods available.

I think you'll find most things on WDW property open --it's one of the biggest days of the year.

We were at WDW Thanksgiving 2005 and went to AK that day. It was crowded but not overly crowded. I hear that MK is pretty crazy that day. We ate dinner at Wolfgang Puck's in DTD. DTD did not seem too busy that night. You might want to try Planet Hollywood in DTD for some snacks, burgers, salads, etc. It's not overly expensive and I can't see too many people picking that for Thanksgiving dinner.

BTW - We'll be in WDW for Thanksgiving 2007 also. Tentative plans are to spend the day at AK again with a big breakfast at Donalds Breakfastosaurus and some snacks during the day. Head back to the resort for a little relaxation and hit the late Luau show for dinner. Thanksgiving dinner at a Luau just seems too interesting to pass up!

We'll be there again too.. eating TG dinner at Hoop de Doo (3rd yr for this! LOL)
If you want a light meal - why not go to DTD like the other poster said.. you are close enough - staying in SSR. There are lots of options there. And i can't see that DTD will be that crowded on TG day - seems everyone is at a park..

Wow! thanks for the suggestions!
Would Garden Grocer deliver on Thanksgiving? We will have a rental car & would not mind scooping up groceries that day, but I know the food markets around here are closed.
I like the idea of going to DTD for light fare, so I think this is the route we will go
We will be at WDW for 11 days

Maybe we'll see you Caitsmama!
BTW, DH is from Warwick, RI.

As for the park traffic--we were at the parks this year the Sunday before Thanksgiving & 2 CMs at 2 different parks (AK & Epcot) told us the crowd estimates had been revised upwards by 10,000 per day!:scared1: That Sunday, we were at AK for rope drop & it was JAMMED! We were very happy it was our last day!
Well..not very happy :lmao:

We did HDD to for TG dinner! Think we'll skip it for 07.

Wolfgang Puck's Express looks like a good place for a light snack.

I'm booked for Thanksgiving 07, too. I plan to skip the parks and spend the day resort hopping, and the afternoon at Fort Wilderness (including petting farm, our first HDDR, campfire). How crowded was this area this year?

Do they serve the same food for T-day as they do every other day at HDDR?

Ahhhh yes. But could you envision Turkey day with anything else than fried chicken, bbq ribs, cornbread and beans?? :lmao:

I am NOT a big fan of the HDDR, however, i go to make the inlaws (who generously sponsor our trips!!) happy! ;) They love it and go every year, so i guess the least i can do is put a smile on for the 2 hrs and then go and get that Sangria flowing!! :rotfl:

Hi, all you Thanksgiving vets!!! We are so excited about going for Thanksgiving in 07. We do not know what to expect. We know it will be crowded but we went in july of 06 so we can deal with the crowds. Will it be decorated for Christmas yet? We are staying off site so tell me of some really cool things I don't want to miss!!!!

It wasn't too bad early in the week, it was our first trip. We did MK & Epcot early in the week, Mon & Tues. Now we were at the parks no later than 9:30. The crowds at night weren't bad, maybe because it was cold. We did rides at MK as the kids didn't care about the parade, basically no lines! MGM wasn't too bad on Wed., though AK was crowded on Thanksgiving Day, especially in the Africa part.

We loved it so much, we bought DVC(had stayed at SSR and loved it) and DH has decided Thanksgiving at WDW will be a fairly regular trip(keeps me out of the kitchen!).

Rember to eyeball the weather for Orlando before you go, and pack accordingly.

Thank you and I actually liked the food when I was there...

LOL, i like it too.. its mostly the show i could live without.. :lmao: I am just NOT a dinner show type of person..
And not many people here in New England -- home of the whole "Plymouth Rock" thing, understand when i tell them we don't have turkey. :rotfl2:

My first trip was in July of 06, too. I was wondering how the crowds may compare. I did so much research as a lurker on these boards that we were able to do pretty much everything I wanted. My MIL was shocked (and exhausted!) that we accomplished so much in 6 days. I'm planning 10 days next year. We are booked started the Thursday before Thanksgiving until the Saturday after, so I'm hoping to do alot before the big crowds. My main reason for going early is that I want to do MVMCP!

december,

We were like you too, it was our first trip in July and my sister and I were totally prepared by using these boards. Our family(party of 13) thought we were superheroes b/c even in the crowds and heat of july we never had to wait for one ride. That is why I want to be just as prepared for Thanksgiving week. I am in super planning mode and hope we have the same luck as last time. I am so ready for 07 so I can say we are going to disney this year!!!!

I gotta say -- I am going low key this yr.. lol. Last yr. i had all my adr's made for each night -- i studied the EMH's and regular hours for each park, etc..

And low and behold - we all got the Norovirus down there, and ended up stuck in the room for 3+ days - then when we were "better" we still didn't feel like eating much or going on too many rides.......lol. So, my "planning" was all shot. LOL

So, this yr. i decided to pretty much "wing it". We will book TG dinner at HDDR, and my dd wants to try to get into lunch at the Castle, but other than that - i am not planning anything!! LOL

Yes! It definatley will be all decked out for Christmas! It is beautiful! You don't want to miss the Osborn lights at MGM - thats for sure!:thumbsup2
Like someone else said, if you have the time, spend part of a day going resort hopping to check out all the great decor.
Crowds are busy -- but not unmanageable. Or mabye i am just learning how to deal after 4 trips during TG.. LOL :goodvibes

We were at WDW on this date--and the week plus before-- in '06 & it was wonderful! Low crowds, got to see MVMCP (the 1st one on 13 Nov) & sample the last few days of F&W. One of our '08 trips is planned for this same time frame.

We have spent TG the last 2 yrs at WDW. It is not too crowded prior to TG we usually arrive the Sunday before but about Tuesday it picks up quite a bit and then Saturday and Sunday after the crowds thin out. I think MK is the most crowded we spent the day at the pool and then did the parks at night. It was pretty cold this year, the year before was much warmer. Just be sure to bring a jacket or fleece for nights it does get pretty chilly.Check out the Grand Floridian life size ginger bread house it's adorable and they sell yummy ginger bread cookies as well. have a wonderful time and you have started me thinking on our trip for this year as well.

Boy was it ever!! LOL, 2006 was our 4th (3rd concectutive) trip during TG, and last year was definately the coldest!!! People were everywhere buying coats/gloves/hats! Usally we swim all week, and we only got 1 or 2 days to swim this year.......... it was a strange trip for us all around (We also ALL got VERY sick with the stomach bug! - missed all our ADR's etc..) So we are REALLY looking forward to 2007!!:goodvibes
