Just got back from 10 days in SoCal, with 4.5 days at Disneyland. We had a great time.

Thanks to all of the Disneyland Disers who answered my questions and provided such great advise to a WDW vet branching out to Disneyland. The parks were packed and we had two grad nights during our stay, but armed with all of the information I learned here, our party of 10 was able to do almost everything that we wanted to.

So, thanks again!

Thanks for posting....it's great to hear that the advice given on the Dis works out nicely for folks visiting Walt's Park. :thumbsup2

If one has a plan & zigs when others are zagging...one can have a great time at DLR even if crowded. :cool2:

(& a mini-report would be great....highlights, best tips, best attractions, biggest surprises, etc. :hippie:)

As requested - a mini (or not so mini) trip report:

Monday - got to Disneyland around 11:00 (later than I'd hoped, but okay). The park was busy. I waited 20 minutes in line at City Hall to pick up first time buttons for the 5 kids (and my hubby), while the kids met the Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit. We headed to Toon Town and did everything there.

I think that DL's Toon Town is very charming (and much better than WDW's version) - I love all of the cars everywhere (so did the two 3 year olds with us). I was surprised that Minnie and Mickey's houses are so different at DL versus WDW.

Then we headed over to Big Thunder Mountain and the Riverboat. After that, we did the Haunted Mansion and part of the Railroad. Then back to the hotel (HoJos) to swim and have supper.

Tuesday - Magic Morning day, so headed straight to Fantasyland. I loved Alice and Mr. Toad, the kids all loved Peter Pan, got almost everything done in Fantasyland (other than the Matterhorn) by 9:20 and then joined the line for the Fairies. It was about a 40 minute wait, and I got fastpasses then. I liked the outside Pixie Hallow more than the inside one at WDW, seemed much more authentic. The kids were excited to meet Terence too.

Did Buzz (a crowd favorite), Star Tours (one last time on this version), met characters (Buzz, Gepeto, Donald, etc.), got ears and headed out of the park for lunch and a nap around 1:00.

Back at 6:00 for the parade. Got a really good spot on Main Street. Then back to Tomorrowland to use our fastpasses on Autopia. My sister's car broke down on the track and she got a super fastpass that we then used on Nemo (no line!!!). Then over to Space - I love the new smooth ride, so much better than when I last rode it. We were in the front of the very first car after it reopened that night due to technical difficulties - a little scary.

Watched fireworks and then tried to ride Indy with our fastpasses, but it was down. So headed back to the hotel after a very long day.

Wednesday - to DCA at 9:25, met Lightening and Mater, got Sorin Fastpasses and then waited for rope drop. Directly to Toy Story, but still ended up waiting close to an hour, it was the longest wait of the trip. Then rode the carrousel and the Sun Wheel and met some Toy Story characters. Then took the 2 6 year olds and the 9 year old on California Screamin' which became the new favorite ride of the trip.

Had lunch with Ariel, talked with Crush (my neice got to ask a question), watched Alladin, participated in the Green Army Men street show, then rode Soarin as the park closed early for grad night.

Back over to DL, right as the parade was getting ready to start. Here is my big complaint about DL - bad planning/traffic management. Don't close one park right before you block off all traffic down mainstreet for a parade. Anyway, finally got back to Adventure land, did the Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room, then over to Its a Small World, and Casey's Train (at night), just as the park was closing for Grad Night. Got caught in the terrible traffic of everyone leaving the park at the same time...

Thursday - DL in the morning for Peter Pan, Alice and the Matterhorn. Then Indy (on Fastpass), Tarzan, Pirates (loved the changes), Pooh. Then head back to DCA, rode Mike and Sully, saw Drawn to the Magic (my daughter and niece were both picked to go on stage), Muppets, met Pixar characters and then rode ToT.

As DCA closed early again (another Grad night), we went back to DL and rode splash and Big Thunder Mountain again. Left just as the fireworks were starting.

General Impressions - DL is charming. I did feel that the walk ways were smaller and everything was closer together than at MK at WDW and given that it was packed, it was more difficult to manuver around. However, since you can't rent a double stroller, I thought that the strollers weren't as bad as at WDW.

DCA - I really liked the Hollywood backlot portion of the park. We didn't do many of the rides at Paradise Pier or the GRR area or the Bug's life area, just ran out of time. We are hoping to get back after the renovations are done.

Getting around - it is SOOOOO much easier than getting around WDW. For anyone who has complained about the walk to HoJo's, all I can say is that compared to WDW it is nothing. My husband and I compared the walk from the DL gate to HoJos to the walk from the bus stops at All Star Music to our room, let alone the walk (and wait) from MK to the bus stops and the hassle of getting the kid out of the stoller, folding the stroller up, etc. Leaving a WDW park to go back to the hotel for a nap easily takes 4+ hours out of a day, while at DL, it is only a 2 to 2.5 hour break. We had strollers from home for the two 3 year olds, but the older kids never complained about the walk.

I am so glad a fellow DISER that you and you’re family had such a magnificent time! Disneyland can really make magical memories for everyone! Hey it is the happiest place on earth! Your trip sounded well rounded and planned out

Glad to hear you had a great trip! Here's to planning your next, err, I mean, here's to the memories that last a lifetime! ;)

Notice that I already have another trip to the World on the schedule.... I have a problem, a Disney parks obsession...

My oldest DD asked last week (as we were leaving Anaheim) how many parks are in France and how many in Asia and when we are going to visit them. Someday, I hope.

Can I ask what else you did while in CA? We are wanting to spend some time in CA this summer and I told my husband we have to go to Disneyland if we are going to be in CA. We've never been! So we will probably spend 2 days at DLR and the rest exploring from LA to San Franciso area. I'm looking for ideas of what to see and do! Thanks! I'm glad you had a great trip!

Great mini report. :thumbsup2 You sure got around in spite of crowds and grad nights.

lvdis- If you head up to SF, you may want to check out the Disney Family Museum. I haven't been yet, but hope to this summer. Also, I don't think 2 days is enough for DLR. :sad2: You really have to do 3 at least! :goodvibes

On our other days in CA we spent one at the beach (so the kids could all see the ocean for the first time) and then spent 4 days up in the mountains at Big Bear (which was great after 4.5 go-go days at the parks).

Lots to do in CA!
