I tried search but can't seem to find an old thread that recommended seeing Warren and Annabelle's show on Maui. Hopefully whoever posted that good advice will see this thread and be properly thanked. We have been to Maui many times in the past but I am not usually "into" magic shows. However, on the advice of DISers we went the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Warren was not there (gone until March 30) but Dana Daniels and John Shryock were both just fabulous. We loved the combination of magic and comedy and the fact that the theater is small and the seats are so very, very close to the stage. DH was picked on multiple times and got a huge kick out of it. So I guess I am adding my recommendation to those of other DISers to see the show if you are in Maui.
A side note: We were flooded out of the original condo we booked in Kona by the tsunami and ended up at the Wyndham Mauna Loa Village, which is right up the road from the Sheraton and close to the Kona Coast resort that DISers have traded into. Although this particular Wyndham has no ocean view rooms and is actually about 5 miles up Alii drive in Keauhou, it was an immaculately clean resort. We paid cash and it was a bargain (6 nights in a big 1 bedroom with a pool right outside our patio for $898 all taxes included during high season). If you are having trouble getting a trade I would definitely consider this as an option.

I know I've recommended it a few times over the past 3 years or so. I'm glad you enjoyed it as it's the one thing I'd tell people not to miss over any of the sites there.

We traveled with you....

We were on the Kona coast for the Tsunami (slept in the car in a parking lot filled with tourists sleeping in their cars) and on Maui for about a week afterwards.

I am just packing for a 10:20 PM flight home (it is 3:45 PM here). I surely am not looking forward to the crummy weather back home. Kona had perfect weather while we were there and Maui has been beautiful, though windy. My only consolation is that we have a DVC trip in the beginning of May.

The little snow we had is almost all gone (but you might want to see if your neighbors blew out your driveway - the snowplow berm was bad) and by Saturday its supposed to be in the 40s - and 50s next week. (We left lovely Minnesota on Thursday the 10th and returned on the 19th).

We may have been on the same flight from Mpls! Were you on a Delta 9:20 AM flight that connected in LA?

No, we flew U.S. Air. The Delta flights all were either too expensive, or had impossibly long layovers.

We leave for the Big Island and Oahu in 36 days and i can't wait. We are staying in Fairways vilas which is next to the Fairmont Orchid hotel. We have use of their facilities, etc as well as the Mauna Lani beach club's private beach. This will be our 3rd family trip to Hawaii and I love it everytime. Still have Kauai to stay on, we did visit for Zip Lining last time but never stayed there. Looking forward to the beaches and warm weather.
Any recommendations for restaurants on the Big Island?

Enjoy your trip. We were sad to leave paradise. The Mauna Lani beach is wonderful and the attendants even come to your lounge chair to serve you (at least they did when we stayed there in the past). And we loved feeding the turtles.
I think that Hawaii in general has very mediocre food at best, especially considering the prices. You are staying far away from the area we stayed, but if you happen to be in Kona, we enjoyed Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill. Also, the old Ocean View in downtown Kona overlooking the sea wall is now The Fish Hopper. We thought that both our breakfast and our dinner there were very good and we love that location. You will be fairly close to Waimea. On the recommendation of someone else we stopped at the Paniolo Country Inn. I almost walked out because it is really dated and worn. But we were hungry so we stayed and I had the best club sandwich I have ever had anywhere. Go figure.
