I share your enthusiasm with the first cruise....we learned soooooo much before our virgin sailing and it was due to these boards. In fact, newbies seem to come and go once they get their feet wet here and just a percentage of experienced cruisers stick around to answer all of our basic basic basic questions which are truly important.
All the cruise rumor, port opinion, blah blah blah stuff is the interesting filler. Like the condiments on the burger made of basic information.
