I am counting down past 40 days to Universal/IOA and want to thank everyone for all the great tips.
Last time I was in Orlando ... 6 years ago.. my new husband and I went to Disney and Epcot. We had no idea what was at Disney or Epcot, only that we wanted to visit there. We stayed about 15 miles offsite at a cheap motel.
My plans this year were thinking about Disney again... not (and I know this will be heresy to some) because we thought it was someplace super special, just as a destination.
I first started reading disboards a month or so before the Fairytale package came out. My husband is ex-military so we were considered the FT package as well as looking at the Shades of Green as a place to stay. Possible Disney targets for this trip were Animal Kingdom, a return to EPCOT and MGM. We were not thrilled by the idea of the trip, but wanted to have a vacation and it would do.
As my reading here went on, I noticed I was reading more and more Universal information. I began to realize there was a lot to those parks, and a lot of pluses to a visit there.
I learned about the 5 day, two park passes, and citywalk for (then) 89.95. each
read about the mastercard deals, we only have VISA
learned about Lowes and Entertainment book for cheaper rooms
then front of the line for those who stay at the hotels.... hmmm...
What to do at Universal for two almost 50 year olds.. no kids... and they don't ride roller coasters or visit night clubs.... Universal and IOA will fit the bill for us with the shows and other rides ...
Watched the travel channel... Dr Suess land looks entertaining even for me.
read about and ordered Barry Hom's books on Universal and 'the other Orlando .... .Editing here to note .. I got the book right but not the author Kelly Monaghan.. sorry Kelly, should have checked before I typed ... great books
what that and a lot of browsing here...
we have water view reservations for Royal Pacific 9could not resist some of the trip reports about RPR)
we will be in Orlando most of 4.5 days ... plan to spend most of it at the Universal complex. MAY do one day at MGM just for comparison.. (Monday if so.. since no FOTL)
I have gotten great tips for motion sickness for me
what else have I learned
we are going in September .. HOT and probably wet
take BRiTA water filters
what to avoid if motion sickness is a problem.. I need to make a list of the .. easiest to the most intense and try them in that order to be sure that I don't get sick the first hour or so
Anyway... what this board has done for me is to turn a "I guess we can go there again this year" vacation to one I am really looking forward to. Between Jurasic Park and Suessville and parts to the east and west is an adventure waiting for us to experience. Thank to everyone who is making that adventure evolve.
