After spending 5 hours last night ironing and cutting and measuring and peeling and transferring, our 18 amazing shirts are finally done! (I did the washing and printing weeks ago!) They look absolutely incredible. I keep looking at them and saying, “I can’t believe I did this”. Of course, I didn’t do it alone – a million thanks to the awesome DISigners who do such beautiful work FOR FREE. You guys rock! And a special shout out to Marion who did our personalized designs (and many of the unpersonalized ones as well). Not only are you unbelievably talented, but you have been so generous with your time. Thank you!

Now, some tips to anyone just getting started. First, look at all the designers’ photobucket accounts (or where ever they store their stuff). I found stuff I didn’t even know I wanted and would never have thought to ask for. Second, order your transfers from Amy. Just follow her directions and you will be successful. I never did an iron-on transfer in my life and I managed to do 18 without any mistakes. And third, order your shirts from Jiffy.com. The prices are great and the shirts are good quality.

Take you time in cutting out the designs. It was really time-consuming, but worth it. I used a ruler to mark where I needed to trim off the transfer for designs that have a white background. Press down hard when drawing the line, and the transfer sheet will crease where you need to cut. Make sure you iron over the edges a couple of times. I had a couple that weren’t perfect the first time I pulled up the parchment paper, but I was able to redo the edges and they look great.

Right now, I have all the shirts hanging up (I wanted them to cool before they are folded). I’ll get pictures before I pack them so I can show them off to you! (Did I mention how proud I am that my non-artsy self was able to do this?):cool1:

Thanks for the tips! I'm just starting to plan shirts for our June 2012 trip with DD, DSIL, and grandkids who will be 8 & 6. Have never done the shirts before, so any help is greatly appreciated! Right now I think the hardest part will be picking what design to use from all the great DISigns here! :)
Can't wait to see your pics!

As promised.

Great job with all the cutting and transferring! Awesome work DISigners!

I just received my transfer paper from Amy today. I am going to practice on some shirts I have and then I will look into Jiffy for shirts, thanks for the tip!

A few questions:
1. What surface did you use to iron on?
2. Do you remember which disigner did the one that says 1st Family Trip on the red shirts? I really love that one!

Thanks!

Your shirts look amazing! Have a great trip... I was wondering which designer did you get the shirt with the mickey head and all the characters infront of it with the castle and tinker bell...Thanks

Thanks!

I ironed on my kitchen table. I took an old twin sized sheet and folded it twice (so 4 layers of sheet between the iron and my wooden table).

I think the castle in the Mickey head is one of Marion's designs. The red our first family trip - I do not remember. But if you want to PM me your email address I can send you the file.
