I posted a thread here some time ago....I was "working" on concinving DH abt DVC, had the dream book etc...we had just bought a park trailer in a WI campgound etc blah blah blah....

ANyway we are going back over Labor Day...and was fortunate enough to book VWL:) I have been speaking with a guide...will do the tour. However I know DH probably will not be swayed by SSR (looks beautiful:) ) only because of the location. I know he will want to be closer to a park if we do this. AKL looks wonderful, but I know he will probably not like that location.
So with that being said....is resale the way to go? I would love to get into VWL..with our little one, we will want to be closer to MK for quite some time.
I read somewhere abt DVC having some inventory at times of other DVC resorts that have been sold out, is there any truth to this?
I would like to say thanks to so many who post here, it has been a great help in learning about DVC!:goodvibes

I used someone's line I saw here abt "happy wife is a happy life"...lol..its working:) He said last night he will do DVC if the "price is right"..

Yes, you can buy the "sold out resorts" through Disney or through the resale market.

If you buy through Disney, it depends on whether they have inventory of the resort you want. The good news is that since you don't own DVC yet they don't have to look for a specific UY to match you to. Any UY month will work in that regard, so I would think your chances are pretty good to get some points at VWL through Disney.

One note...your guide might very well tell you that he/she can only sell you SSR or AKV at this time. The other resorts are just something that Disney doesn't push at all as they want to sell new construction. Just put your foot down and tell him/her that you are only interested in VWL. Normally they'll switch course and help you get those points as quickly as possible.

Or you could go the resale route. You'd probably save some money but it is more time consuming and potentially frustrating. There are pros and cons of buying either way, but both are 100% valid ways to become DVC owners.

Keep asking those questions....you want to be sure you have good knowledge of the system before you take the plunge! :)

Thanks for the reply! Do you know if the minimum # of points to buy stays the same as if I were going to purchase AKL or SSR? I am just trying to get around that $16K price, as far as persuading DH...he would like OKW as well, especially since he found out how long we would be paying dues!! lol He is 47 and I am ....younger:)

I purchased my original VWL contract through Disney when VWL was a 'sold-out' resort. So it can be done. I really liked my guide and he has proven to be very helpful, calling me back to answer even the smallest of questions.

If you are trying to start with fewer than 160 points, you will have to make your initial purchase on the resale market. The Timeshare Store at the top of this page (sponsor) is one of the excellent places to look. As of this posting time, he has a couple of contracts in the 119 - 150 point range.

Again..info here is priceless:)
Ok..talked to my guide today, she has been amazing to say the least.
Question....
The ONLY benefit of your home resort is being able to book it 11 mths out....wouldnt a prospective buyer prefer the DVC reosrt with the lowest dues and price per point? Isnt 7 mths a good window usually?
However, no closing costs on sold out resorts....
Any input is appreciated:)

If you want to stay and certain resorts (BCV-springbreak,FWF October, Wilderness for xmas time, BWV/OKW or SSR Grand Villas) at the highest demand times than you may not be able to book these resorts without the 11 month home resort preference.

Otherwise 7 months would work fine... You can always reserve your home resort at 11 months for the time you want and try to change at the 7 month mark.
