Thank You Thrifty!

I go to WDW every December/January for Christmas Break. I made a reservation through Thrifty for this upcoming trip wayyyy back in June 2004. Yes, 18 months in advance. The rate was very good ($130 per week pre-tax for a midsize over Christmas) and I made about 4 different reservations guessing at my dates. Of course ... I guessed wrong. I just booked my airfare this week. I had the correct start date, but my reservation ended 4 days too soon. Bummer . When I tried to change it on-line my rate almost tripled. Triple bummer .

I remembered my last rental with Thrifty (the fabulous now defunct $79 per week economy car rate!) where I had to split my reservation into two because it was only good for 10 days. When I arrived at the counter, the clerk happily extended my reservation for the whole time at the $79 rate and I didn't have to return the car mid-way through my trip. Hmmm ... maybe they can do some magic at the rental desk. Maybe someone can do some magic on the phone ...

So, I called Thrifty today and asked if they could extend my reservation at the current daily rate. I crossed my fingers because with most car rental agencies the answer would be a quick "no". But not Thrifty! They cheerfully extended my $18.49 per day rate 4 more days .

Thank you Thrifty! I am a very happy rental car camper with my all-inclusive 14 day $340 rate for a mid-size over Christmas! Yippie!

When you called Thrifty did you call the 1-800 number or call the local rental office directly? This just happened to me yesterday...my airline bumped my flight to LA up by 5 hours and I had booked my rental with Thrifty for Christmastime back in May for a good rate. When I called the 1-800 # on their website to see about picking the car up 5 hours earlier (it wouldn't change the amount of days we'd be renting for) they said they could only change my reservation for the whole 11 days at what the rates are currently (much more $$$) . Any advice on where you called is much appreciated. Glad it worked out for you...enjoy your trip!
