I completed my experimental transaction and it worked beautifully! I bought a Target card worth $79 on Raise for $75 with my Disney Visa. Then I redeemed it on Target.com for a $100 Disney card, along with 3x$5 gift cards I got free from buying TP etc, I got $5 off for having Redcard and paying the remaining $1 with Redcard. $76 out of pocket for $100 Disney card, and almost a buck in Disney reward dollars. Not too shabby! I plan to do that every month from now til PIF date, working it down as close as I can to $2000, which then I will put on the six month free financing and get my $50 OBC plus $50 or so in reward dollars. Thank you once again to the DIS community, I have learned a ton of useful things here!

To qualify for the $50 OBC (beverages) through the Visa Rewards card, the entire cruise must be paid for with your VISA.

I did not know that! I could swear the last time we had part on our United card and part on our Disney card and we still got it. But maybe it's changed since 2013, or maybe I am not remembering correctly either. Slightly less excited now, but even so, 25% discount on $1000+ is still worthwhile vs. a $50 OBC.

Also look at Cardpool. Works the same way as Raise. Sometimes they have a higher discount on Target cards. They also have a bulk purchase function where they combine cards to come very close to the exact amount you need.
Example- $300 of Disney gift card cards cost $285 through the Target Red Card using Target Gift Cards. With a Cardpool, I was able to buy $284.86 worth of Target Gift Card for $264.91. Make sense?

What is Raise?
There is another thread on this site that explains how to buy discounted Target cards through Raise. You can then use these Target cards to buy Disney gift cards to pay for your cruise, gifts, purchases, etc..

It only sounds complex, it works like a charm. Hubby and I are saving a good bit on our January cruise this way.

Agreed, it sounds complex, but once you get the pattern, it's a great way to save money for a tiny bit of investment of your time. Our upcoming cruise has been paid for 100% by this method, and I've saved over $900 by using it. I used a couple of credit cards - never used a debit card, tracked my orders meticulously, and planned ahead for times when cards wouldn't be available - either discounted Target cards or Disney cards from Target. One other discount site that I used with great success was GiftCardZen. I actually got some 10% off Target cards there back at the end of May / very early June.

The biggest pain of this for me was entering the codes from 96 Disney Gift Cards into my Disney Vacation Account :)

Disney can refund the other card you used, and then charge your Disney Visa so you qualify for the $50 OBC. However, that might be too much of a hassle if you made a significant amount of payments with another card.
