Thank You DVC Annual Pass Discount

Looking at the proposed ticket price increases this may be our last annual pass. Even with getting 3 trips on one pass this may be the end. We will use our current pass obtained with the discount $559 for a platinum plus the end of August 2018, Easter 2019 and early August 2019.

The 2018 price increase will bring the pass to a whopping $949. Yes there will be a small DVC discount. But what will passes be by 2020 when I will need another pass? They will certainly be over $1,000. Unless DVC offers Platinum Plus for Gold again I don’t know what we will do. Every year I say they are pricing me out. But that may be it.

Sigh - yes. I remember when it (our tickets) went to a $1,000 for 4 now it is a $1,000 for 2. Wage gap is HUGE. There are many people earning 200+K a year now. Two in the same household means 1K a pop is nothing. Unfortunately, most of the worker bees do not come close. I still look at the cost vs wages & minimum wage 15 years ago - even 10 - and it is not reasonable.

I feel the same way about the DVC dues. 70 > 200/month. Almost 300%.

My professional white collar job did not increase wages by 300%. And yet, suddenly, we are able to hire multiple consultants making $250K/yr. Nice if you have the pull to land one. But for the few to feel special, there has to be less people and they need to feel it is an 'exclusive' experience. The pricing will keep going up beyond the expected rate of inflation. Perhaps, someone will build something almost as nice that is more affordable.

I hate the price increases just as much as anyone -- but I can't really blame Disney. The parks (and hotels) are still full and with new rides on the horizon for the next few years, interest in the parks is likely going to keep increasing (or at least stay even).

Increasing AP costs by 10% is unlikely going to change those purchases. If you're going to take two separate trips of at least 4 days each, then APs will still make sense.

The price increases are definitely depressing. We have been using NE tickets the past many years and are about out. My oldest DS needs a 2-day ticket for next year, but the rest of us are good. After next year though, I'm concerned. The plan was for my DH and I to start buying APs, getting 2-3 trips out of each, thus buying one every other year. But one of the reasons we bought DVC was to take our family and future grandkids. We would love to do a big family trip every three years with them, but I don't know if any of us will be able to afford the tickets. We are thinking of buying a BRV contract in the next couple of years. I am already saving for it. But I'm not sure if we should buy it given the crazy price hikes!

I also love the platinum for gold price offer. I am taking a trip this summer for the sole purpose of activating and making a couple day's use out of it.
Don't forget, though, that as DVC members we can still purchase the much cheaper gold pass. Unless you are in love with the water parks or going during Christmas, the gold pass seems to be the way to go. Pricier than last year, but still not a bad deal if you spread it out over 2-3 trips.

Yes, any link to prices, please!?!? I need to decide what my best option for my D's boyfriends ticket is going to be. We will all have APs (so I'd kind of like him to have one) but....yeah....ugh...no discount for him....and then I'm betting on them staying together.....decisions, decisions.....

So once agaon, rumors about Disney are 100% correct. Date of change as well as exact dollar amounts.

Looking at the new prices, if you don’t go around Easter or Christmas, the Gold AP is a huge discount for members. $589 vs non member Platinum $849. If you do water parks, you could add the water park AP to Gold and save.

I’ve always gotten the gold AP so I’m glad that hasn’t gone up too much. If I use disney gift cards I buy at target it’s pretty much just wipes out my savings on those.
