I know there’s been a lot of threads about neighbors over the years. I can say that we lucked out with some really good ones 👍

This winter storm came through last night and while they were initially predicting 2-4 inches, we easily have a foot or more now. Last night, while trying to get ahead of the snow fall, my snowblower broke 😡. My son and I were able to shovel most of it and I was hoping it would stop overnight. Nope, we had at least 6 more inches this morning and coming down hard.

So I texted my next door neighbor to see if I could borrow his snowblower (he’s got a beast of a machine 💪). They’re out of town (ironically, on a ski trip) but he gave me his garage code and said I could use his. To thank him, I cleared his driveway as well, since there would be no way he would be able to get up his driveway when they get home today (assuming they can get out of the area they’re at).

We’ve talked about selling our house here, now that our kids are close to being on their own, but it’s the neighborhood that’s been keeping us here ❤️

Good neighbors are such a blessing & to be treasured. We also have wonderful neighbors & they’re the reason we haven’t moved either. We’re in a suburb of Buffalo & as everyone knows, we get a lot of snow sometimes. Neighbors are always helping each other out. We’re in our 60s. The folks on the left of us are in their 40s, the ones on the right are in their 80s. The couple on the left worry about my husband & will help him snowblower & watch out that he’s ok out there. Meanwhile my husband will try to snowblow for the guy in his 80s. Or bring his garbage cans in etc.

About 7-8 years ago we had a snowstorm while we were in WDW. My kids couldn't get to the house either. We figured we’d have to park on the street & trudge thru snow to get inside. Nope. By the time my kids could get there, 3 neighbors had worked together to clear our driveway after they did theirs.

I appreciate our neighbors every day.

On our street I have some great neighbors and we watch out for each other. My next door neighbor watches our dogs when we go in vacation and does doggy daycare when we are at work. She’s elderly and has a dog too and they love to play together. We have a few single women now on our street through divorce or being widowed and they all look out for each other too. If that changes we will move in a heartbeat.

On the end of our block are some rental houses so they can be a mixed bag and behind our house on the next block are some airbnbs and they can be a nightmare when they are rented for a party with loud music into the night.

Good Neighbors are priceless. My good neighbor leaves for half the year to go down south ( snow bird). I love when he comes back!

We are renters and it always makes me so upset that people feel like we wouldn't be good neighbors or aren't invested in the neighborhood. We are long term renters. 5 years at the last house and only moved because the landlord sold which we worked with her through the whole process. And 5 years here where the landlord lives literally across the street. I know you said mixed bag and I get it that renters can be awful. But so can other homeowners. I'm a bring your trash cans in, let your dog out, feed your cat, pick up your mail, drop off a meal kind of neighbor. Renter or not neighbors could be good or bad.

Edited just for a double negative that made no sense.

I have nothing against renters at all, we have had some good ones and not so good. The ones on our street are owned by a big corp REIT so they tend to have a high turnover. I think partly because they don’t maintain them as well as an individual landlord who is renting out a home would. We have found over the years the renters tend to keep to themselves more than homeowners. The airbnbs are another story as they are particularly rented for pool parties at the houses behind me with blaring music random days of the week into the wee hours.

I totally understand. Renters just get a terrible reputation and most of us want a nice neighborhood as well.

We rent and have a variety of neighbors. Wd are blessed by our next door neighbor who has become a friend. We keep each other in prayer.

I don't live ;where it snows but when I grew up in NJ. After a big snow storm, we'd all come out with shovels and start clearing. Always seemed one would start and before you knew it, all your neighbors were out at the same time. We'd all help each other out. Then the kids, including myself, would make snow forts.

I’ve lived in NJ my entire life, in my current home for 28 years. Love those state of emergency 3 am neighborhood gatherings, the sound of generator's and chain saws, the borrowing of the wet vacs and pool pumps. Walking around in pajamas accessing damage as the sun rises. Plus we borrow eggs, sugar, milks, canned goods, produce, etc. all of the time.

Our neighborhood is wonderful. Every time I think about selling our house and moving to a condo, I stop and think about how much I would miss our neighbors.

And, you are a great neighbor! I bet your neighbor with the snow blower will be happy when they come home to a clear driveway.

I will always have a special place in my heart for neighbors unknown to dad and I before a major earthquake years ago. I remember a small group of us including our dog Champ stayed warm and renewed energy and faith in the warmth of one kind neighbor's large van. It was a reminder to me of my faith belief tbat we are all connected and are meant to come together in kindness.

Good neighbors are priceless. We've been pretty fortunate over the years. Our block has been undergoing a bit of a shuffle the past few years and a couple of the newbies kind of got off to a rocky start on a few fronts, but luckily it seems some patience and some friendliness on the part of those of us who've been here a while seems to have inspired some more neighborly habits. We were really sad when one neighbor in particular moved to FL and are grateful beyond belief the folks who bought the house are just as kind.
