Hi all........wondering where to start to search for a mostly texting only plan for dd......she had a phone with everything, that her dad paid for.....however he has taken it away:confused3.....and she is miserable.....she is 15 and feels so unconnected with her friends....she does use Facebook but it is not the same.

So, I'm looking for a cheep text plan......she would rarely talk..so what works for your kids that does not break the bank.

We have no other cell plans in the family.....I use my trac phone limited amounts of time and am not looking for a replacement yet.

Thanks!!! cstwwt

I have two boys that are 14 and 15. I got them the LG phone from Virgin Mobile. We pay $25 per month and they have unlimited texting, unlimited data (for Facebook and Twitter), and 300 talk minutes. My older son's phone screen went out when he accidentally dropped it and they sent a replacement overnight. Customer service has been great. We've had the plans for over 2 years for one son and about 6 months for the other. The only bad thing now is that the $25 has now gone up to $35 which is still much better than other plans out there for unlimited data and texting. Good Luck. I know it is hard because that is truly how kids communicate now.

Check out the tracphones. You can buy her a bunch of minutes. Some phones offer double or triple minutes for the life of the phone. I think it is about 3 texts that equals one minute.

Walmart also has the straight talk phones which offer unlimited texting, minutes and internet for like $30 a month.

Maybe also check out the Sprint family plan...may wind up the same price with free phones And unlimited texting.

Good luck!

We started my daughter off with Kajeet's unlimited texting and 60 minutes of talk time. It's $16.49 a month. Eventually we'll move her to our Sprint family plan, but I wanted to ease into the whole cell phone thing.

Thanks for the replies....Kajeet looks great.....any other DIS reviews???

I also recommend Kajeet! We've had Kajeet for 2+ years for DS14. The plans are cheap - we have the $19.99/month plan which is unlimited text & 100 minutes, there are other plans (cheaper & more expensive) to suit your needs. It's their phones that are over-priced, but we searched & couldn't find a plan that even comes close to $20 a month with unlimited texting. His 1st phone we just got the basic one they sell for $24.99 - check online for coupons - they almost always have at least 5% off at couponcabin.com. It broke once & they replaced it for free. For Christmas last year we got him an LG Rumor - way overpriced at $115 but it was his gift. That broke once & they replaced it for free. Then he lost it, so we told him it was on his dime to replace it. He currently has whatever the basic LG phone is, I think he paid $34.99 for it.

Not sure if their phones are top quality since we've replaced 2 in 2 years, BUT DS14 is hard on his electronics, and both times Kajeet was great about replacing them, no questions asked. I did have a customer service issue when returning the one broken phone, it took 3 weeks for them to "find it" even with tracking, but I guess that can happen anywhere.

If you have any other specific kajeet questions let me know!

Another vote for Kajeet. :thumbsup2 We've had it for 3 years for our oldest DD and have just signed her younger sister up. I've only once had a billing issue with them and it was resolved promptly and efficidently. Oldest DD just recently replaced her phone because we found a Kajeet LG Rumor on Craigslist for $25. Her old phone still works which she passed down to her sister.

I found a code FROSTY for 10% off any phone at Kajeet.

They run off the Sprint network, just FYI.

I am glad I read this thread. I have never heard of Kajeet but when my kids are ready for a phone I will definitely use them. I agree their phones are kind of crappy and expensive but the unlimited texting and 150 anytime minutes for 19.99 is a good deal.

doesn't t mobile (see their site)

have unlimited texting for $15 a month? pay as you go?

is that good?

You have to have money in the account each month when it gets renewed. If we don't, we have to wait 3 months to have the same plan again. YOu can have an auto-bill set up. But it's month to month -- no contract.

Minutes are 10 cents. but really all she does is text. She's maybe had 10 phone minutes in the last 3 months.

We gave her one of our old phones so it was no cost except the SIM card. I'd recomend making sure your dd has a phone that's good for texting . I recently saw a blackberry-looking (not sure if it was blackberry) with a keyboard at Walgreens for $80.

I've been looking at phones for DD. I was in Walmart today and they have an ATT go phone with 250 mins of talk and unlimited texting for 25 a month. It's a new plan they just came out.

no money in account with tmobile. every month before it's about to expire, they text you and ask you if you want to add more and you just text over or go on line with your credit card. or,,,, you can go buy a $15 card from store/tmobile.

you can add 5 , 10 30, etc.

you only need $15 for 30/31 days though.
