Does anyone know of any good ways to text in WDW? My DS is currently in a relationship that revolves around texting:confused3 . So of course he wants to add long distance texting to his phone for our trip. We have a Rogers's plan but when I checked for calling there would be roaming charges. Is that the same for texting?

I looked on Roger's site and it looks like it costs .60 per text message. I didn't see a plan. There is no cost to receive a text message. Your DS may be bankrupt by the end of the vacation. :)

I'm on Rogers and continued to use my phone in WDW as I would've in Canada because of work issues. My bill is normally $75ish, for the time I was in WDW, it was $800+. Even before I left I called Rogers and added a long distance plan and a texting plan and my bill was still huge.

Didnt they put a new regulation in place that now you do not receive messages free anymore?
there was a big push to try and get everyone on a 10/buck month plan so they wouldn't be charged for EACH message received??

There isn't a regulation only greed on Bell's and Telus' part. Rogers still has free incoming text messages without a plan.

heres a way, tell the kid "to bad, so sad, get over it", your on a family vacation, family time together...

or maybe leave the kid at home, old enough for a cell phone old enough to be left alone...

and it sounds like your paying for his bills, again very sad.. get him on a pay as you go plan, and make him accountable for his expense

Wow:confused: . Judgment aside, he does pay for his cell phone bill and works for the money to do so. Having been a teenager I understand that two weeks is a long time to be on a family vacation and not in contact with his friends.
I was just wondering if anyone of my fellow canadian disboarders had found a good way for this. After all it was the nice:flower3:
people here that let me save tons of money on my first trip by suggesting pc phone cards.

Who are you with for a provider? We have Bell unlimited texting and we text all the time when we are Florida in the winter and this summer when we went to TExas and Arizona.

We never got charged any extra??

I pay for unlimited texting with Bell, and it doesn't cost anything to send or receive texts anywhere in North America as far as I know. I've sent/received in Florida, Buffalo and all over Ontario and never paid anything extra over and above my plan.

Thanks, I'll have to tell DS to look into Bell since he's been wanting to change providers anyways. Roger's doens't offer an unlimited plan they only offer a 2500 month plan which is what he has but it is still subject to roaming fees.

I'd call Rogers Customer Service (or have your son call them). They may have a "North America" Plan that isn't easy to find on their website.
I have found that calling and talking to Customer Service is the best bet when it comes to deciding what phone plan is best.

You can probably have your son put on North America Plan for a month to cover the time that you're away, and then have them switch him back when you get home.

That's what I'm doing, and have always done.

They don't have a texting plan. That is why we purchased tracfones to begin with. We are lucky here, MTS has unlimited North American texting, so that really works for the kids.

hi there, I WENT TO dISNEY WITH MY THREE TEENAGE GIRLS AGE 15 AND THEY TEXTED THE WHOLE TIME FOR FREE BECAUSE WE HAVE UNLIMITED TEXTING with Bell....HOWEVER...Be careful about browsing online (MSN or Facebook) it is NOT covered while in the states we got a bill for $400.00 extra!! WE had added the Florida $40 coverage for long distance calls but the browsing wasn' t covered. Bell was pretty good about it and cut the bill in half.

Sorry about the caps...I have a new laptop anmd I keep pressing the cap lock instead of shift!!!

We are with Rogers and there really is no affordable way to have text messaging included for all of North America. After exploring all possibilities with Rogers, even threatening to switch to Bell we have decided to order a few of the Virgin Aloha phones and have them delivered to the resort. They are free if you buy $9.99 worth of airtime and activiation and shipping is free. Seems to be the most affordable way to go. We are travelling in a lrge group and need to keep in touch, we won't really be texting back to Canada

Went through the same thing with my DD on our trip last year....she rode Everest in the middle of the day while on the phone with her BF....bill total 245.00...geesh....would have been cheaper to bring him I think. Anyway they are still dating (9 months and running....more attached than ever) and I am looking for a better alternative as well. I am with Rogers so this thread is of interest to me. Trying to limit their contact during our "family vacation" caused us more grief than it was worth....trust me on this one. Teens...what are you gonna do.....:confused3

How do you order? We have GG going in Dec so this might be the best solution. This way DS can keep in contact this trip and we can use it well we're there in Dec to keep track of everyone.
