Texas family dies while driving to Disney

I'm so sorry for the loss of life. Especially those children. But, my heart is absolutely breaking for the teen boy who still has to go on from all this. I can't even put words together...

There was a bad crash near here years back - family on their way to Six Flags. They actually died within sight of the park. Mom ran up on stopped traffic at the exit, slammed on the brakes, and when she realized she wasn't going to get stopped, swerved back into traffic where their van was immediately struck by a dump truck doing 70 MPH. It was a large family like the one in this story. There was only 1 survivor, a little boy of 9 or 10 IIRC. I always wondered what happened to him :(

I live in Louisiana. Here, a ticket is written at the scene of EVERY accident. The troopers had no choice. They showed compassion by citing him with a misdemeanor.

Even if caused by an undetectable medical event?

A friend's son was in a single car accident on Halloween. He passed out, continued driving 1000 ft before hitting a pole. Had all sorts of tests and it is believed he may be an undiagnosed diabetic. But his passing out was not predictable. As far as I know he was not ticketed.

Let's not forget that tickets can be dismissed. Getting a ticket does not mean you are actually guilty. It's just protocol. It can be determined later that he was not at fault. There is no way for the trooper to know about an undetectable medical condition at the scene.

Funny but if you replaced driving to Disney with say . . .Walmart I believe there would have not been any interest in this story.
While I agree it is sad; the fact of the matter is people die in accidents all the time and I doubt anyone on this board is scrutinizing other accidents with such fervor.
Go go gadget flame suit! ! ! ! !

True, I'm sure most people realize the only reason this story is national news is because of the Disney connection. If it happened going to Walmart, it would just be of local or regional interest. But since it DID make the national news, people are going to talk about it here. And people in Texas and/or Louisiana would be talking about it if the accident happened going to Walmart.

Making the news does not "make" it news . . . .
