Texas Disneyland! Not.......

If only THESE RUMORS were true. I never heard these rumors until I moved to Dallas about 15 years ago. That's when it seemed that most of the rumors started.

Maybe it was because they knew I was moving there.

Anyhoodles, this rumor pops up about once a year it seems. Yes, we have great weather almost 10 months out of the year, summers don't get as bad as Florida, Winters are mild, population is growing faster then some cities can keep up with and the economy isn't as bad here (although it's not great) as it is in other parts of the US.

Still, I wish these rumors would die off, but part of me wonders if there could possibly be ANY truth to it. I mean, like the article says, when Disney was buying land in Florida, they had a team of people doing it as to not raise any suspicions as to who it would be.

I dunno. I would love to be able to get my Disney fix every weekend rather then once a year if I'm lucky.

I don't think the rumors are true. Our weather typically goes from freezing to brutally hot with nothing in between. This past year was atypical.

I know not long ago we had temps over 100 degrees for more than 30 days in a row, and factoring in the THI would mean a "real feel" temp close to 110. We also do get truly cold temps for more days than the other Disney parks.

But we'll see! Strange things happen sometimes!

That's true about the cold weather, but I'd take a Texas summer day over Florida in July or August ANY day. I spent most of my time running from shady spot to shady spot. We got wet on one of the water rafting rides and NEVER dried off.

Next time I go to WDW will be in January.

I doubt you will ever see another Disney park in North America. Between Anaheim and Orlando, they pretty much have the market covered.

I am right there with you. I live in Cedar Hill (suburb of Dallas), and I grew up in Dallas. I started hearing the rumors when I became interested in Disney as a whole before I got married sometime. I think about 12 years.

If only it were true in some way . I do know that at least there is a liqudation place in Lewisville till March, so maybe I can go there and dream the dream. If it were to ever become true, I am sure that we will both be there.

His new home HAS become an attraction. For gawkers and protesters. I'm sure his neighbors are LOVING him right about now.

I think if Disney were to build anywhere in TX it would be in the greater San Antonio area. We already have two parks here, Six Flags Fiesta Txas and Sea World, we have cheaper overall labor costs, compared to Dallas. San Antonio has local attractions, like the Alamo, and they are expanding the River Walk. We have the stock show & rodeo and the annual Fiesta.

The problem with any location in Texas is that all of the existing theme parks are "seasonal" and there just isn't a huge customer base for the "lean times" like there is in Florida and California. It would essentially draw the Texas, Louisianna, and Oklahoma customer base away from Disneyland and WDW, at a cost of millions of dollars. So, really, from a company perspective, no bang for the buck, unless they also drew a LOT of International tourists from South of the border that normally would not visit WDW or Disneyland.

I have no patience for traffic/delays/closures due to ANYTHING, so I will be irate the first time I can't get somewhere because a Bush has sprung up in the path.

By the same token, I wouldn't want to live anywhere near any major tourist attraction. Too much of an aggravation factor.

It would be amazing to have Disney closer to home, but I don't think it's likely...

OMG! Tell me about it...I live in North Arlington, right in the middle of the mess that is construction on I-30, The Ballpark, Six Flags, AND the new stadium....bliss, I tell you!
