So I have always wanted to attend a Disney meet but am never able to so I have been wanting to find a way to have a Texas Disney meet and after hearing about the Cars fundraiser I thought it would be cool to do a meet and a raise money for GKTW. I have no idea how to put something like this together but am willing to do whatever it takes and learn. Is anyone else in Texas interested in trying to get something started?

I went to one at Grapevine about 12 years ago. Would like to do it again.

We would consider it. What are you thinking about?

Ok, so any ideas on what we should organize? I am new to this type of thing but am willing to learn and call or do whatever I need to but I need some ideas

I think meeting up at a place where we could chat and be comfortable would be fun. Did I hear someone mention outlet mall @Grapevine Mills? It would be fun to meet up and have lunch.
Perhaps a meet up at an agreed hotel. Have trivia, sharing of favorite memories, Tips and Tricks, Scavenger Hunt, maybe a Disney Geo Cache Hunt... I don't know just throwing stuff out there.
I used to live in Denton and I remember Lewisville area had lots to do and I can't imagine how much they have now... that was 12 years ago.
I would help organize. : )
I guess the where and the what is the question. : )

Drake and I had been talking about something in the Austin Area so that is would be central to the state. We have a good sized Houston/SE Texas group.

We would def be up for Austin.
There should be lots of places there.
Let's do this. : )

Subbing! I'd love to go to a TX Dis meet! I'm up North in Lubbock but I go to the Dallas area a few times a year!

Don't forget to post a link to this thread over at the DIS Meet forum. Lots of people check there frequently for a meet in their area. :)

OK so do we want to do one meet or do we want to do two one in Austin area and one in the Dallas area?

Since listening to the show about the Boston meet I have been kicking around the idea of how to plan a North Texas meet and what to do. I couldn't really help with or attend a meet in Austin but would be happy to help plan one in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I live just outside of Fort Worth and I only work one day a week. So I have time on my hands.

In the Grapevine area not only do we have the Grapevine Mills but there is also the Gaylord Texan. They have some great restaurants there.

What kind of interest do we have in a North Texas get together? If we could get a rough count I would be happy to try to find a location that would accommodate us. Heck if it's not a huge group we could do a BBQ and swim at my house!

Excited to hear everyone's ideas!

Suzette

If no one has any objections I would be happy to call several different locations tomorrow and see if we could get some group space or side dining room set aside for us. That would at least give us a jumping off place for further conversation. I hoping if I explain that the ultimate goal of the gathering is to fund raise for GKTW I could get the space (any other things) donated. I figure I would start with:

The Gaylord Texan
Great Wolf Lodge
Hall of Fame at the Rangers Ballpark

Also an idea I know a guy who owns a restaurant here in town and he might be willing to giving us some space or reach out to the restaurant he used to own and talk to them.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes so please say HEY BUTT OUT if you want to.

Sooooo I just hung up the phone with a deli in Grapevine (Weinberger Deli). I explained to him who we are and what we are doing and asked if maybe they have an area that we could host a lunch at.

He was very interested in our little group and has offered to donate the sandwiches to our gathering. It turns out that he is also on the board of the Chamber of Commerce and said he would be more than happy to speak with the Chamber and see if he can get us some publicity with other owners there in town and get items donated for a silent auction. He said his deli only seats 48 but he gave me the names and contacts of a few locations close by that could accommodate a larger group and he felt for sure we could get them to donate the space.

Does this appeal to anyone?

The Napoli's down the street may be able to seat more--they have a little building out back that they use for larger parties.

I actually work in Grapevine so this would be perfect for me. Market Street has been very good to our schools and they may be willing to donate something for a silent auction. And, good luck on getting anything from the Texan. We can't even get them to come down a little on their prices so that the hometown kids can go to a prom in their hotel.

He recommended I contact the Texas Room which is right behind them. He also said The Palace? He said they would be able to run some Disney movies in the background during the get together at the Palace. So I thought I would give them both a call tomorrow. He could easily cater the sandwiches to either of those locations. I figured the Gaylord would be difficult to get anything out of. I think Grapevine is a great central location.

The Palace would be great! It's a great refurbished theater. The only thing is that they won't be able to do it Saturdays since they have the Opry there every Saturday evening.
