Yes, the fp line skips a lot of the factory part of the queue. Totally worth doing once. But it is a great ride so if you don't want to fp Soarin I would ride it SB and use the Fp to ride it again.

When you say the "factory part," are you referring to the pre-2013 Test Track?
The old FP line did indeed skip it, but in the re-designed Test Track, the FP lane doesn't skip anything. You do the car design same as those in the Standby line.
(And my understanding is that Single-Rider lane folks have the choice of doing the design or skipping it.)
That makes more sense....I was wondering why touring plan developers were advocating TT FP+ if if would mean missing what people seem to consider an important part of the experience. I did not realize TT was renovated 2013.

yes, it was renovated to be more sci-fi-ish, kind of like Tron? That's the only way I've seen it described that works. It used to be more like a car factory. But like many queue lines it's interesting -- nothing like Harry Potter Forbidden Journey, but you won't be bored if the wait isn't too long.
Since I have a FP+ booked, I think I will keep it but try to get there before the line gets too long so I can check out the queue and switch the FP+ to another ride (or choose to ride twice!)
