Though some of you fellow WDW geeks would find this interesting.
I was talking to a friend here at work today who I knew was called into be part of an outside consulting team brought in by Disney to review the TT control software before roll out. We were discussing it again today.
At the time TT was late and the software unreliable (poorly written) and not too safe. At one point during a demonstration test the ride vehicle came up to the final turn at 60mph when the turn required 15mph max. The car body flew off the chassis and crashed into a wall. That was a main reason they were called in, due to safety concerns.
Their solution was to have their software/hardware get a copy of every piece of data the ride control system had to handle safety concerns. For example, if the car reaches a part of the track and is going over the max speed, the entire ride shuts down. Cars too close together for their speeds, another shut down.
This was the first time I had heard that part of their experience.
So anytime you're sitting in a car when the ride shuts down that's probably why.
