Termination Question.

I was terminated from the DCP a few years back. It was a housing issue between myself and one other person.

I believe the person I talked to informed me that it would not stand against me in terms of the Company, and that they would not tell anyone why I was termed etc etc.

Well, I had applied for the professional internship last semester and I was saddened, although not surprised, that I was immediately e-mailed saying I could not be considered as a possible employee.

Would anyone happen to know what channels I need to go through in order to fix it, or at least clear my name? It would also be helpful if anyone has similar stories or insights in to this top of topic. Thanks in advance.

You need someone to vouch for your character to HR for you.

I was a no-rehire after being listed as a no-call no-show at my job at the Disney Store in Chicago. I didn't know this, as I had never been scheduled a shift and never started there. After 3 years of applying to the college program and my local Disney Store in MI I finally made it to the interview stage for the store. They loved me at my interviews, but when I didn't hear back I gave the manager a call and she told me about my status with the company and asked me to explain what had happened in Chicago. She understood it to all be a misunderstanding, and so called HR and had the no-rehire removed from my record. The next day I was hired at the Store, and 6 months later I got into the DCP. I owe my entire career to her, and am eternally grateful.

There is no age limit for doing the College Program. You just have to be actively enrolled in school at the time you apply.

As far as I know, there are no age restrictions, you just need to currently be enrolled in an accredited college. In fact, while I was there, there was a friend of mine that was 26!

I do have a friend that knows someone in HR actually. So you're saying that is the best route to take?

Nearly anyone who leaves the College Program early, regardless of the situation, gets a restricted rehire for failure to complete the agreed upon contract.

My guess is your work location put the restriction on you, I recommend that you follow up with them. If you know longer have their contact info, Contact Casting and ask to speak to a recruiter about your status. You can go through a process at Casting to get the restriction removed if you are able to show work history at another location for a minimum of 6 months employment.

Unfortunately a housing violation/termination is the hardest to overturn. From my experience there is not much you can do, even if you have other people vouching for you, so to speak. You can try to call casting, but be prepared for people who will tell you nothing can be done. I've heard it's a mixed bag on who you talk to. You'll definitely have to be patient and persistent.

Though I hate to hijack your thread, I have a somewhat similar situation and was curious about my re-hire status. I actually was forced to self terminate because I had broken my foot on a day-off. Unfortunately, because it was a my day-off and so I couldn't see a Disney doctor about it, my location refused to give me light duties and instead just forced me to call in every day. The CP laws at the time were 10 days of no work for any reason is termination, so at 9 and 3/4 days I made the phone call.
Does anyone know what kind of status you get with self-term?

You'd be a restricted rehire. If you knew your managers well you can talk to them, or talk to casting if you've had a steady job for 6 months since then. Either of those can change you back to a yes-rehire. Do it before you apply for any Disney job again or you're basically automatically turned down.

Transitional Duty is only for Cast who are injured at work, not for personal injuries. If you were a Part time or Full time Cast Member you would have been placed on a Medical Leave of Absence. Since you were a CP, you are not eligible for MLOA as you were hired under a contract that you stated you would work from X date to X date. Yes, it sucks, accidents happen - but your location followed the same protocol any other location would have done.

Yeah, it just especially sucked when it happened inside the park because a rude guest decided to roll over my foot in an ECV

Especially when we ended up having to file a report and all.

Sorry I have been away for a long time since posting this. Got really busy. Finally got around to calling Disney about my status. I talked to someone and they looked up my record. They said I had a "Violation of Company Policy" on my account and could not appeal it in any way. What I did to get termed doesn't warrant such a harsh penalty and it's pretty upsetting to hear this kind of news.

Anyway, thanks for all the input and well wishes. I did all that I can do from what I can see.

Hey, I don't know if it is possible for me to necro my own thread, but I have some more news and updated info for you all so it seems relevant.

I had originally thought to throw in the towel, what, four months ago, but I'd thought I'd keep trying every so often. Well I seem to have gotten some solid information from an HR rep in Disney.

The representative informed me that your no rehire status can be appealed. You'll have to first call WDW Casting and speak with one of the representatives. You have to request a "Rehire Status Review Petition" which you must fill out and return to Casting.

They will then review it and make a decision after consulting all the relevant people. You will then be notified if the appeal was successful or not. If you attempt to appeal, and are denied, you must wait a year before attempting again it seems.

Now, I do not know if you have to first apply for a position and then contact them or just contact them. I assume you can contact them at any time. I won't really know until I try it.
