Term paper vent

I have returned to college on a parttime basis, I am currently taking US history I. Now I haven't taken any classes in over 10yrs and I knew I would have term papers to do but my first topic assigned is a doozie (atleast to me). The topic is "was Alexander Hamilton homosexual?" Ya know there is not a whole lot of info out on this. So please sent a little pixie dust my way so that I can get through this with all my hair! Atleast after I finish this I will be going to WDW - yeah!

Hmmmm.....interesting topic....not sure exactly why it would matter though or why someone felt compelled to have it part of an assignment. Good luck finding the info you need to write your paper. Just keep reminding yourself that you are going to Disney

Check the GLBTQ website and search for Alexander Hamilton.
I believe they address his sexuality and list some authors who
addressed it in biographies. His supposed romance with a fellow
named Laurens who died was followed by a long and successful
marriage and eight children.

And the colleges and universities don't have a liberal bias and agenda??!! I can't think of anything more irrelevant! Did the prof indicate why this issue needs to be explored when there is so much more to US history?

The first night of class he was going over the syllabus and in the paperwork it had 50 topics listed, then he started assigning them. I saw this topic and thought "oh no, I do not want that one" well he called that number and my last name. I have read through alot of the letters between him and Laurens, and then there is part of one from the Marquis de Lafayette that sort of raises the eyebrow, but I can only write so much about those, and the Prof wants 3-5 pages, and oh yeah 7-10minute oral presentation. I keep thinking "I can do this!"

Other topics:
1) was columbus an heroic explorer, or an evil slave trader?
2) Who was Edmund Burke and how did his ideology influence history?
3)Was the Louisiana Purchase constitutuional?
4)How did John Marshall affect the American judicial system?

needless to say I think I got the most far-fetched topic.

Is this class required for your major or is it a general requirement? I swear when I was in college my "general" studies classes were required more time & effort than my major courses. My major was accounting and by no means a "cake" major.

Find the book Lies my Teacher Told Me. (I foget the author). Its an interesting book on history.

I think, this is a think, that Hamiliton's sexuality is in that book.

Those other topics were noted in that book.

This sounds really interesting to me!! I like when the term papers are more obscure and make me really dig my teeth in. At first I was like..."who cares?", but seeing the other topics, I think I see where the prof is going with this.

As someone who used to teach sections of US history while working on my PhD, I would never ever have assigned such an innane and worthless topic. It will do nothing to further your understanding of US history. (I also find the Columbus topic a PC topic and not worthy of a real discussion). This person has no business teaching any history class and I hope you report him to the department chair, your advisor, and the dean's office.

If I was writing this paper, I would take the point that the topic itself is irrelevant and then support that POV.

Good luck with such a stupid paper topic.
