I went through Select Quote last year for term insurance on myself.
I am 56, and got $150,000 level 20 yr term for $445/yr. They checked alot of different options for me. This was nearly $200 less than the other quotes I had gotten. My policy is with Transamerica

The agent I talked to was a Brian Bechtel 1-888-807-3971. He was very professional, not pushy at all and it went pretty quick

I got AAA 15-year term life for $500,000 for $412/year. They were amazing. Very professional. I checked with 3 other companies and hated the process. I am 45 years old and healthy, nonsmoker. All 3 gave me a good rate online but ended up asking for more later. All my medical/health exams came back normal No family history of cancer and heart disease so far. My dad is 80 and my mom is 67!

I also went through AAA. I got a 30 year policy for $500K for about $500/year. I am 41 year old female with high cholesterol. I thought they had excellent customer service and very quick service.

We went through ING recently. 20 year term, 250k each on dh and myself. $12/month for me, $14/month for him. He's 32 I'm 27 and we had to do a health test before getting those rates, but they were by far the lowest I found.

And kudos to you for thinking about this, everyone needs some insurance outside of their employer. We have personally experienced a family member who was laid off, then shortly thereafter diagnosed with a terminal illness.

I have USAA. I'm 40 (got it when I was 35) $250,000 policy for $250 a year, 30 year level term. No big health test required and it was painless to get.

We have USAA as well which is rated tops by consumer reports. Got mine 2 years ago when I was 30, $250,000 policy for $300/yr. My husband's is $250,000 for $550/yr with a few health considerations (all minor but still there).

In my experience it is cheaper getting quotes online. Some of the bigger companies offer discounts when ordering online, because it is less work for them. But to be safe you could compare quotes online, pick the best offer and try a local agency to see if they can match it or do better.
