Is teriyaki as popular everywhere as it is here in the Seattle area? I think we have as many teriyaki places as we do Starbucks!

since nobody has responded, I'm guessing it's just a Seattle thing? :confused3

We have Asian restaurants that serve food cooked in teriyaki sauce.
I had salmon teriyaki the other night.
Not sure if this is what you mean.

I think it is. Our town has about 5,000 people. We have five teriyaki places in town, one chinese, one thai, and a new pho place going in, it's crazy!

With that said, we had teriyaki the last two nights. Went to Nasai in Redmond tonight - yum!

We have a bunch of restaurants around here that just serve teriyaki, sometimes they'll have some chinese style food but otherwise it's just teriyaki.

There are probably 15-20 places all within 2 miles of me. Teriyaki/Japanese/Sushi......We eat sushi at the same place every friday night. I had teriyaki chicken for lunch today on my break from jury duty. It's everywhere in Calif. Hardly any chinese restaurants around anymore though. Really weird.

I think Teriyaki is out here. It's more about Asain fusion and more spicy sauces. Just what I seem to observe.:)

We have, let's see... none actually :confused3

The closest one here is probably the one at Disney world. Mainly we just have thousands of Chinese Buffets.

These are Mom and pop type places that you normally find in strip malls. They have maybe 10 tables at the most. They serve Chicken/beef/pork cooked with teriyaki sauce and served with rice and salad. Normally around 6.00/person. You may find some have very limited chinese food too.

Yep, exactly!

So Orange County at least has it too! It's everywhere up here.

I'm also in the Puget Sound area - and, yes, we have a teriayki place in every strip mall or shopping area.

Okay, that's weird...restaurants devoted to one flavor? I guess it's like having a cilantro place, or a ketchup place, or something.

Brings to mind a teriyaki accident we had in the house the other day. My DH loves BJ's wholesale club...you know, things bought in bulk? So we have mega-tubs of mayo, mega-bottles of ketchup, etc. The other day my DD made herself some frozen waffles, reached into the fridge for the mega bottle of syrup, and poured...took a bite...and spit. It was the mega-jug of teriyaki sauce she had grabbed. She's so off of waffles now....

It's not big on the right coast or at least not what I've found. I buy Yoshida's teriyaki and his gourmet sauce at Costco for use a lot at home. But we started doing that while living in Calif my first 41 years.

Sometimes we'll find chicken on a stick (yakatori?) that has been marinated in teriyaki at a chinese buffet. But that's about it.

Don't think I've ever heard of a straight "teriyaki" specific restaurant...Sushi specific, yes. Teppanyaki places? Of course. Never, "just teriyaki" places. Since they exist, you'd think that NYC would have a bunch of them. I'll have to ask around...

That being said, we have tons of Japanese restaurants and they all serve teriyaki style dishes. Not my favorite item on the menu, but I'll order it from time to time.

Do they serve it on a stick like it is served in Japan? Have you had a chance to try tacoyaki? Octopus on a stick- yum!

We are originally from Seattle, but now reside in the flatlands of the midwest. NO terriyaki- and in fact everyone thinks we are crazy for making terriyaki at home.....there is ONE place to get terriyaki chicken/steak, and that is it. One of the many, many, things we miss about the great Northwest (add in water, mountains, decent coffee, lifestyle, Seahawks.....even nice misty rain instead of tornadoes!)....oh, what we would give for terriyaki and coffee in the rain during the earthquake from the volcanic eruption!

:lmao: :rotfl: miss Seattle much??

After this thread I think I'm heading to Uwajimaya today, need more teriyaki sauce!

Do you mean "teppanyaki"?

We don't have restaurants devoted to teriyaki sauce but we do have restaurants that are centered around the teppanyaki style of cooking.
