When I look at the menu online of Teppan Edo, the soups, salads and appetizers are listed separately. But I understand it to be a Japanese steakhouse type of place. Does this restaurant not have the option of the entire meal including fried rice, soup, salad, shrimp appetizer with your meal?

No....it's a la carte there....unlike Benihana or most other Japanese steakhouses....appetizers, soup, and salads are extra.

If you have not already made up your mind, I would seriously consider whether you really want that experience or not. If you have ever been to a Japanese Steak House, you have been to Teppan Edo. And probably had more food. The food and service are good, but it is no different from any other.

has anyone using the DP eaten here and if so..... what is the best thing to order ??
thanks.

Thanks for the information as always! I'm still a little undecided. I am interested in hearing the answer to disneyred's question about good options for the dining plan here.

I ate there in January on the DDP. I think I got steak and shrimp? That trip we ate at Ohana's, Chefs de France, Olivias, Puck Express, Hoop De Doo, Rainforest, and Teppan Edo. Out of all of those, Teppan Edo is the only one I can't remember for sure. Rainforest was awful, so I definitely remember that! The rest were VERY good. Except for Teppan Edo, just unmemorable.

We decided against it for the same reasons. We go to Benihana's and a local version of a similar style, and know what to expect in terms of flavors, sauces, extras, etc. We had tried Teppan Edo a couple times back when it was Teppanyaki (I think) and each time been disappointed because it was different that what we were used to (especially the kids). And this was back when it included your choice of soup or salad at least. Around here we can get a full dinner for two (chicken, filet, and shrimp) for $32, including the soup and salad and appetizer and tea and ice cream. At WDW, we pay about the same per person and don't get most of the extras. We'll save that for at home and enjoy the other Epcot restaurants that we don't have anything like here.

If you do want a Japanese fix, we've found the Yakitori House (CS) to be a great place to just stop in and get the Ginger Salad ($3ish). They also have great Udon Noodle soup. It's actually DS16's favorite restaurant and he's looking forward to going there as much or more than any of the TS restaurants we have reserved.

Well, I had the exact same thought but we're still eating there! Go figure, I plan umpteen princess-y meals and activities, so the boys want to choose one meal, and they choose the ONE we could (and DO) eat at home!!! Oh well, hopefully it will be good. I'm making them eat Norwegian for lunch, so they'll probably be hungry for steak and shrimp for dinner!

Well, honestly, it's the one that I'm most regretting not making anyways. I guess everytime I see a review of it, I feel kind of like "well, I KNOW we like that kind of food so why didn't we book there this time?!" But we really wanted to do some of the others we chose for the first time and, as I said, we know we could do that at home. But if we do Chefs de France and have a really bad experience or whatever, I know I'm going to kind of wish we'd done Teppan Edo anyways!

You do get the fried rice with your meal, but the soup, salad and shrimp are additional if you want them. We ate there in Jan. and it was a great meal. We upgraded our sirloin and shrimp dinners to filet for $7.50 per person extra(we were on the dinning plan). Someone else at our table did this, so we asked if we could do the same. The filet was good, but I imagine that the sirloin was also good! I thought the Teppan Edo was lots of fun and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Have fun with whatever you decide.

What do you mean you upgraded your sirloin dinner? You're telling me if you're on the dining plan, you can't get filet mignon??? If that's true, I'm going to cancel immediately.. that's a huge rip!

We ate at Chefs our first night in The World in January. My husband is all about trying new restaurants because there are so many. He's not into "different" foods, but he likes to see the new atmospheres. Out of all of the places that we ate last year, and we picked some good ones, Chefs is the only one he wants to do again. I wanted to try Le Cellier, and I'm afraid now that if it doesn't live up to the hype all I will hear the entire trip is "We should've stuck with Chefs." :rotfl:

Will be interested in the upgrade cost also. We have eaten here for years on the DDP and have never had to pay extra for a meal. We have always been able to order any combo that the menu had. We will be going in about 4 weeks and have ADRs for our last day for a lunch before heading to the airport. We have always had a great meal and plenty of food. The rice was included with the meal. We always just order appetizers and pay for them.

Do you know if you are able to substitute fried rice for just regular steamed rice?

We are trying to do healthy meals this time around at WDW (I know it will be difficult) and one reason I picked Teppan Edo is for steamed rice and some yummy grilled shrimp. Can't be too many calories and fat in that right! ;)

I do not see fried rice on their menu ~ only steamed rice & Udon noodles. If they offer fried rice DS will be So happy!

Love Teppen Edo. Good food & fun everytime. We don't go to Diz without a stop here. :cool1::worship::thumbsup2

We ate there a few weeks ago. First off, you get a bowl of steamed white rice. There isn't any fried rice. Second, much like most other Disney restaurants, the quality and portion size has decreased. While the food was tasty, the portions were small. Most of my family was at Beaches & Cream eating a dog or burger just a few hours later. I would go, just temper your expectations.

Always, get a combo plate. It's the same amount of food as 2 single entrees. Last time we went DFi ordered just the steak and I ordered the steak and chicken and our steaks were the same size. So I always suggest that.

If you are on the DDP, what is included in your meal? I didn't realize the soups, salads, etc. were extra, so do you not get those for DDP?

You get your choice of 1 as your appi (I've never cared for the soup or salad, so I get edamame, it is the best food in the world to me)
then you also get an entree (your meat, steamed rice, noodles and veggies)

With deluxe you also get a dessert.
