We are traveling with a vegetarian and several people who don't care for seafood. We thought the kids would be interested in watching the chiefs at Teppan Edo, what doyou think?? Do you order off a menu and they cook it or is it a standard meal?

i have not been to teppan edo in japan personally so what i am about to say it my guess - not actual fact.

as a vegetarian, i would not expect to be able to eat there because the food is generally all cooked together on the same grill, with the same utensils, etc. as all of the meat products.

now - i'm not stupid enough to believe that doesn't happen in the kitchen - but at least then i can convince myself it is cooked separately - out of sight, out of mind. (some restaurants do actually cook veggie items separately.) at a japanese restaurant like that it's right in your face and not terribly pleasant.

not all vegetarians feel the same way that i do - some will gladly pick the meat out of their meal, etc. i'm just not that accepting. ask them how they feel about it and take it from there.

I know nothing about being a vegetarian, so that's why I'm not commenting about that part of your post :goodvibes.

Teppan Edo would definitely be good for kids. I've seen tons of kids in there every time we've been and they love it. You do order off of a menu; it's not a standard meal.

As a vegetarian, I'm not interested in Teppan Edo's menu at all. It's basically sauteed vegetables with some noodles and rice. Boooring! And low in protein, unless one gets the edamame appetizer.

I'd rather go to Tokyo Dining.

My husband is a vegetarian and we ate at Teppan Edo on our honeymoon

They cook all of the veggies first, so that they never touch meat products

but all he ate was my white rice

So its not a great idea, but it is a lot of fun to watch!

On our last visit we ate there and one of us ordered the vegatable dish, the chef asked if she was a veg. she wasn't so it didn't matter but he was going to cook the meal seperate.
