hi all!

dh and i are planning our next WDW trip for sept 11-17. it'll be our last trip as a family of 3 as i'm due to have another baby at the end of november. i'm looking into ADRs (usually i have them all planned out by now but we only just decided to go).

i'd really like to try some new places this time. i say that every time and still wind up eating at the same places.

what about teppan edo? i love those kabuki style restaurants. do you think it would be appropriate for a toddler? my son will be a little over 2. i think he would enjoy looking at the chef cooking but i'm a little nervous about the hot cooktop.

there's plenty of room between us and the cooktop, right?

i think this may or may not be the silliest question i've asked on the DIS. thanks for your input!:hippie:

We have eaten at Teppan Edo multiple times and loved it! It is a fun experience and I'm sure your toddler will enjoy it:) There is probably a 1 1/2 feet of counter between you and the grill. I dont think you will need to worry, your son will be so focused on the chef. I definatly suggest trying it. Have fun!:goodvibes

Won't be a problem at all. We took my son (25 months) there this month. They told us to sit him at the corner or on the end as they were the farthest from the grill. My daughter (4) also sat on the side. On the side you probably have 2 ft or so and maybe 1.5 in the middle. My kids both were mesmorized by the cooking on the table and the "fire!" The service was good and they brought out an extra bowl of rice for the kids!

We ate there once with our kids, when they were around 4 and 6.

I didn't think there would be a lot for them to eat, but I thought they would like the cooking show, and be entertained.

As it turned out. Our guy didn't put on much of a show. In fact, he appeared to do the least amount possible to get the job done, and he went as quickly as possible.

The food was OK, but I was dissapointed in the experience.

Your experience may be much better. You may enjoy it, and if you want to try something new, then certianly try it out.

We had a great experience. My son was 2, 4, 5, and 6 going here. As they sit the youngest at the end, the hot top isn't a worry. DS loved watching them make a volcano, etc. All 4 times the quality was consistent. I'm disappointed for the previous poster who didn't get the same experience.

We find the food high quality--I think it is way better than the local Benihanna's.

My son always ate his meals there. he was there once over his birthday and they made a big deal out of it. Super fun.

It's a must do for us!

thanks everyone! i'm convinced! we're going to do it. i love those types of restaurants. last time i ate at one of those i was pregnant with my son.

i noticed teppan edo doesn't take the TIW card. now the question is, am i too cheap to dine there without a discount?? lol.

I would give it a try at home before hand so he knows what to expect. Our DD got really scared the first time we took her to a Hibachi style restraunt. We are thinking of trying it also this year, DD is finally eating better and loves Japanese food.

We love Teppan Edo. The food is great.

Have you taken your toddler to a Hibachi restaurant before? My son was terrified when he was little. All the banging and clanging of knives and fire on the table, really scared him. My daughter wasnt bothered by it at all.

I would suggest trying out a hibachi place with your toddler prior to your trip, just see how they react to it.

We are a group of two familes-4 adults & 4 children (13,10,8,7). Can't decide which one as we have never been to either. I'm a bit concerned about food for the kids so this would be a major factor. Please help...

Teppan Edo is great. All the "action" actually helped keep our 3 year old g-daughter occupied and quiet for the whole meal. We have taken her twice so far and she eats more at this restaurant than any other. It's perfectly safe too.
