Tents?

I'm not a camping girl...by far! I once camped in the Grand Canyon around the age of 9, and had a bear raid our campsite in the middle of the night. Needless to say, it scared me from camping ever again...

My son who is turning four in two weeks, is dieing to go. It's too hot right now, but I thought I would suck it up for his sake and go sometime in November. He wants real camping...tent, sleep on the ground type of stuff...

Does Disney provide/rent tents? I obviously don't want to buy one, in case this is just a phase he's going through. I also figure that Disney won't have bears, and we'll have other things we can do during the day if he gets bored with idea of camping. I realize he's four and doesn't always know what he wants. With that, I still want to give him the best camping experience I can and Disney always has the magic touch we've all come to love. Who knows, maybe it'll convince me to try out a local campground (doubt it..but who knows...lol)

Thank you!

Hi, yes, WDW rents tents. but, at $30.00 a night rental after a couple nights you can buy your own starter tent. I hope you can try it out. I think your little man will enjoy it.

Since by your own admission you are not a camper girl, does Disney setup the tent for you when you rent from them?

Yea that is a little steep, since I can probably buy one off of craigslist for much cheaper than a few nights. I think he'd love it...and to be honest, I think I would too. I enjoyed camping when I was younger, but after the bear incident I was done...lol.

It would be great if they did, but I do remember how to put one up. So if not, no big deal! Just didn't know if they rented them or not....

At 5 years old my girly girl DD wanted a tent and wanted to go camping. Turns out her idea was to put up the tent we bought for $20 at Target on our back patio and sleeping overnight there. I would start there personally. My 4 year old will only sleep out with us when a dog sleeps in the tent with us. He has now adjusted to it but he has to be pretty sleepy to get to sleep.
We now have a coleman instant tent and it really is a breeze to set up. It is tall enough that you dont have to crawl around inside. I am not sure what the smallest size they have but I could put our largest size up by myself if I had to. We have literally had it standing in 2 minutes.

We actually borrowed a tent from our neighbor once, not to long ago and set it up in my living room. He hated it! So he made me put it outside in the backyard. I slept in it with him and he enjoyed it but the next morning said it wasn't real camping. He's a very independent little boy and as long as I stayed in there with him he'd be fine. Heck, I think he'd be fine even if I didn't and he knew I was within yelling distance. Not that I'd allow that, but he's not shy about letting me know that he's a big boy now.

There are some some people in the area that rent campers and have them all set up and waiting for you. Not sure about tents though. Maybe Google for for "camper rental Fort Wilderness." I would give you some links but got demerits for it last time. :confused3

Just wanted to let you know they are out there. Good luck to you!

I didn't notice a clear answer to your question, but YES, Disney will have the tent you rent all set up for you. And will remove it when you leave. All you have to do is furnish it and your campsite with whatever you want. There's a charcoal grill and a utilities post on your site. You might need a fan, but most likely can get by with no AC. Enjoy and post a followup when you decide...and when you do your TR.

We just bought the Coleman Instant tent, I think the 8 x 14, we love it, i hated walking in a tent hunched over, it is hard on the back, we take ours on motorcycle camping trips, so fast and easy to put up, we actually timed ourselves, not including staking it down, it was 63 seconds to put up.:worship::thumbsup2

Sounds like your little one is ready to go.

We love our instant tent. My DH is almost 6'5" so we had to shop around to find one that was tall enough. That was his one requirement. After just a few trips with our tent I dont know what I would do with a dome I had to hunch over in. We also have a regular screen room so when we work with the poles etc to put that up we really appreciate the instant tent. I just know I would get 2 sets of poles mixed up somehow.

I promise,,,, no bears ! :thumbsup2

Oh, it's not the bears you have to worry about,, it's those blue tailed lizards !
They might be small, but as a group, they are MIGHTY ! Apparently they like beer and hub-caps,,,time and time again I have had to fight them off from stealing ours.

So far they have had no success , but they grow in numbers by the day.
