I have finally settled on dates for my first ever tent camping excursion to the fort... It will have to be next april vacation I will be driving down and tent camping solo spending most days at the fort with possibly one maybe two days at the parks havent quite decided yet... so here is my predicament I have a Hyundai Santa Fe which i can fit my camp gear in however my bed linens I usually use those big zipper bags, what I've been thinking of though is using those space bags I know I'll have no prob packing them at home for travel down however what I cant figure out is how to suck the air out of them for the ride home. I'm thinking of the air compressor for my air mattress, or going to the car care center near MK and using the car vacuum or if anyone else has any ideas.... or actually has anyone done this? I'm a major planner so even though its 8 months away I have to start thinking of all the little details I've already got my meal menu done so I've been dying to get to the fort to tent camp for 2 years now

The camping board has been so helpful for information I am a casual camper with friends over the summer and generally my friend has all the kitchen stuff and so I've been slowly gathering all that I would need for solo camping so that sticky at the top for packing lists has been great.

The pump for your air mattress on "deflate" mode should work on the space bags

We are going Oct 7th and tent camping for the first time at the Fort. We just bought some space bags yesterday and the air mattress pump works. We tried it to make sure before we bought more bags. Have fun planning your trip!

We have done just what you are talking about. And in a Santa Fe to boot. My advice is to use only small to medium size space bags. The bigger ones are very clumsy to use, and don't stay sealed nearly as well. Also be careful to not over-fill the bags, too much tension on the seal causes it to open and air to enter, thus defeating the purpose. We tried the space bags once, never again. We have since purchased a mini-van and consequently have quite a bit more space. good luck, and have a wonderful trip!!!

Thanks everyone I'm sure that as I continue to plan I'll have a bunch more questions... I was going to try it with my air pump this weekend (my air pump plugs into a cig lighter and it not battery operated) so I'd have to lug it all out to the garage and back again and after work I'm to darn lazy and tired to do it...
