My sister and I have booked our trip for October. We're planning to tent camp at FW. This will be our first time at FW and we're very excited!

For our planning, I was wondering if anyone could give us an idea of weather, bugs, or "friendly critters" we may experience. While we love camping, these things are good to know about before heading out!

i don't know where you are from but, we are in wisconsin and have been down there many times in october. most of our october trips have had what we call great weather. it is a lot like wisconsin in the summer. warm during the day and once in a while cool at night.

should be perfect sleeping temps in a tent. bugs, shouldn't be a problem. the only critters we have had by our sites have been ducks.. you'll be fine. :thumbsup2

I agree Oct is great, if you go the first couple weeks you might have a few love bugs around but they don't bite and aren't much of a problem since the season will be almost over.

I usually hit the Weather Channel website and check the "averages" section when planning a trip, then within a week of our visit check it daily on the 10-day planner as to what to pack.

Here is the average site: http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/vacationplanner/wxclimatology/daily/USFL0372?climoMonth=10

We tented one time in October and other than the arrival day when it rained the weather was beautiful. The averages for October are 85/65 so it should be nice.

We went to Fort Wilderness the third week of October 2008, and the weather was great. Cool (but not cold at all) nights. Mornings sometimes a light coat was nice, but the temperature quickly warmed up. I really don't remember any bugs!

From a Floridian point of view, October is one of the best months to go. The heat has died down and the bugs too! It is not yet getting cold and it is just that type of weather that we wish we had all year.

Have a great time.

I like the weather in Oct. at the Fort.

You asked, "For our planning, I was wondering if anyone could give us an idea of weather, bugs, or "friendly critters" we may experience. While we love camping, these things are good to know about before heading out!"

What kind of bugs and critters are you hoping to find ? :lmao:

Your gonna hav'a great time !:thumbsup2

The fishing is good in Oct. too,,pack a fishing pole.

Wow, thanks everyone for your help! We grew up in Alaska but now Jamie lives in Seattle and I live in central PA. We're use to cold weather so the warmth should be great. January temps were very nice when we went last month, but i'm looking forward to it being a bit warmer.

I hate bugs that bite and creepy critters, so and so thankful to hear there shouldn't be many bugs and just some friendly ducks. I'm a total pansy when it comes to snakes, spiders, and the like. :scared1:

I can't wait to join ya'll in chatting about FW. You look like a pretty great crowd to hang out with!
